Strand Palace Hotel

Strand Palace Hotel

8/10 Good
"First off, much like the adage of real estate --location, location, location-- much is the same with Strand Palace. It is in an ideal location, especially if you're seeing tons of theater as I am inevitably am when I visit. However, during my stay there were two different issues that cropped up with my room's amenities. First off, the light switch for the bathroom simply fell off so maintenance had to come up and fix it, which they did...quickly. Secondly, the cheap plastic racks holding the Rituals shower amenities broke...and were never fixed. And not for nothing, that Rituals shampoo and conditioner is not great. I typically like Rituals and spent a few pounds at two stores during my visit but that shampoo and conditioner makes my hair look terrible. Also, the front desk seems understaffed much of the time as the lines seemed quite long as I passed through the lobby and there were typically only two desk people. However, the Gin Palace was amazing. Went every night I was there (that it was open). Sanjay took good care of me. Also, due to past experiences (three different times) I avoided Haxell's due to the crappy service. Instead, pop into 370 Strand a cute little cafe on the Strand attached to the hotel. Likewise, had the best steak of the year at Joe Allen. Also, had a darn good chicken sandwich at Benny & Frankie's next door so there are a ton of other options than the overpriced Haxell's. But...I'll be back. I promise!"

"The room itself was clean and seemed well enough maintained. It was a spacious room as well. My only complaint was that it was quite stuffy and without air conditioning it got very warm at night. The location was very convenient and the price for the night was reasonable."

"The room was enough for what we needed, though the privacy in the toilet and shower is not very good. You can see through it. Where our room was situated the noise from the club was very loud until 3am. I know we’re in London and to be expected to a degree but for how much we paid I believe these things should be better. Having to pay £25 to leave a bag pre check in, while we walked around London was a joke."
