Dorney Court

Dorney Court showing a house and heritage elements
A popular wedding venue and stately home has been passed through generations for more than 500 years. Visit the barn, estate and café set in scenic parkland.

On an expansive complex with manicured gardens and woodland, Dorney Court is a traditional Tudor manor house. Dating back to the 11th century, the manor house combines medieval elements with Victorian touches. Tour the opulent interior for a glimpse of the period décor, frozen in time from the early 1500s.

The manor has belonged to the affluent Palmer family for five centuries, with its various halls and chambers serving as reminders of each generation. Study the images of previous family members captured in the portraits hanging on the walls.

Admire the elegant design of the Coach House Barn. Originally it housed the carriages and coaches and was used as a brewery. Today it’s an events space.

Stroll across the majestic grounds, appreciating the views of well-kept gardens and carved hedges. Grazing flocks of sheep add to the tranquil bucolic image created by the estate.

Gaze up at the redbrick tower of the Church of St. James the Less, whose foundations were planted more than a millennium ago. Guided tours and the Sunday morning Communion service allow visitors an intimate experience within the church.

Bring your family for lunch or afternoon tea at the Dorney Court Kitchen Garden. A plant nursery and walled garden embellish these grounds. Let kids enjoy the playground, complete with a fort and swing set. Find out about gardening techniques in the workshops and tours available in this section. Browse the gift shop for stationery and locally made products, such as golden honey.

The mansion itself opens on several May bank holidays and throughout August from lunchtime until late afternoon. There is a fee for entrance to the house and its grounds. Tours are available for large groups at other times during the year by reservation.

Dorney Court is in its namesake village in the southeastern outskirts of Maidenhead. Take a train from central London to Taplow, followed by a bus to the mansion to arrive in just over 1 hour.

While in the area, visit LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, Dorney Common and Eton College.
