"The ocean view is slightly misleading because it's at about a 45 degree angle to the balcony. There is a LOT of noise on weekend nights both from other rooms and from the street, but the people watching is entertaining. There are lots of places to shop, browse and eat at all within short walking distance. The room is small and the bathroom is very small. When you sit on the toilet, you could lean your head on the sink by just bending forward. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking is free in the small surface lot next to the hotel entrance. The courtyard has a nice fountain and there are two levels of patio decks with tables overlooking the beach so a private balcony with a view is not really critical. It's not the newest hotel, but it was clean and well maintained, and you can't beat the location. It's just not a luxury destination. I was very satisfied with the trip and wouldn't mind staying there again for a laid back weekend."

"If you are looking for a little of the Venice (in LA) vibe but would rather be in beautiful San Diego, the Beach Cottages is the place to go. Older property but well maintained and very clean this "right on the sand" option is for you. We stayed in one of the one bedroom cottages and it was just a great place to hang out. We walked to several good restaurants, and did spa treatments all within one block. The property does a great job of providing outdoor showers (to get rid of the sand), plenty of ice, a full kitchen, lots of clean towels, shampoo / conditioner / and body wash. They tell you no air conditioning but the breeze was so cooling we would not have used it even if available. Remember to bring your own beach towels and enjoy!"
