I stayed at Gilbey’s upon recommendation as my friends had their wedding reception in the restaurant downstairs. I have to say, the food and service in the restaurant was impeccable.
However, I was very disappointed with the room and don’t feel that the price reflects the room standard. The room was dusty and felt unclean. The carpet was baggy and threadbare in places. The tapped dripped all night however when you wanted hot water, the flow was a mere dribble. When I got into bed at 11.30 am when I untucked the duvet there was blood stains on the bedding that weren’t visible when they bed was made. The ironing board was rickety and unsafe. Whilst I was using it the board collapsed and the iron fell off and nearly landed on my foot.
This morning, I didn’t have toothpaste and wanted to speak to receptionist, I kept looking out to see if anyone was present every 20 minutes or so and there was no one there which shows that the hotel is poorly staffed and undermanaged.
Lovely stay. Staff very helpful and friendly. Amazing location, lovely room. We always have issues with beds and pillows everywhere, we never sleep well so I can't say if it was just us or the bed, which was quite soft and the bedding/sheet/blankets too rough and thick. Smaller cleanliness detailes like the kettle in dire need of descaling. The aircon needs fixing, the grills wouldn't really open but it was quite late when we first turned it on and didn't want to bother anyone. Bonus was free Netflix and great choice of beverages and nice biscuits. It was a lovely stay at an amazing location. I'd definitely stay again.
This was our second stay in The Studio at Gilbeys and it is a truly wonderful place, lovely staff, delicious food, peaceful AND close to everything. We will be back!
We stayed just one night at Gilbey’s before heading to Heathrow, only a short drive away. Our room was great, lovely furnishings and well appointed with a nice ensuite bathroom. Staff we very friendly. Would certainly use again!
Wonderful small place to stay. With three rooms only. We were in Windsor for one night because it is close to Heathrow, but will come again for longer. Gilbeys is fabulous and the staff is amazing and very helpful.
Hotel is really well located on the high street and don’t let the latter term put you off. There’s no noise( well we didn’t hear any) from the front bedrooms.
Each bedroom was spec’d out to a very high standard and nothing was omitted from making the room top notch. They seem to have really thought through the design.
I think the one “ complaint “ and I guess it’s wholly personal so perhaps observation is a better word, would be the timing of breakfast on the Saturday morning. Served from 9.15am. It looked fab from the menu but sadly timings didn’t fit in with us.
To be fair to Gilbeys we didn’t actually ask if something could be served early to the room … so not sure if that would have been an option?
Overall though, it’s a very small thing and didn’t dampen the stay nor the intention to return. Very good value and excellent place
A very nice, small hotel with a lovely restaurant. Right across the bridge from Windsor castle. Breakfast and dinner were great, a very good chef. Keep in mind, if you expect to arrive late, let them know.
In the UK on the hottest day ever, it was a fabulous place to be. Great ambience and location, lovely room, delicious food, friendly, and helpful staff, and, especially, effective A/C.
We stayed in the Studio Suite and it was fantastic! Large and fully stocked with everything you could imagine. Walking distance to shops and Windsor Castle. 5 Star hotel experience and wonderful meals at the restaurant!
Stayed for one night to see the theatre and the room exceeded expectations. It felt more like home than a hotel room (there was no musty smell that you normally get in hotel rooms!). The room and bathroom was light, pleasant, excellently decorated and very clean. The toiletries were also wonderful! I had an excellent night’s sleep. The only downside is it would have been nice if breakfast was included with the room. Other than that, excellent and I will be back here if I ever stay again in Windsor (it’s worth booking another play at the theatre just as an excuse to return to this lovely room!).
We very much enjoyed our stay! Staff were friendly l, the room was spacious and beautifully furnished and in an excellent location. We’d love to come back sometime!
We stayed one night at the end of our three week European holiday from Hong Kong in the studio on the top floor. The room is fabulous, but we were checked in by two inexperienced young staff members who gave us no briefing other than “breakfast in your room in the morning” Breakfast turned out to be a few bits of stale bread and pastries which had been there for at least 18 hours by the time we tried to consume the following morning. With no instructions on the room we didn’t even know how to work the TV or audio system which was hugely complex and not working because most of it was in a cupboard and didn’t receive the signal from the zapper unless the door was open. After an hour of messing about with this we had to get someone to show us how it worked and it was then superb quality. The lady owner was pretty horrified about the way we had been treated over the briefing and awful breakfast arrangements and eventually went and fetched some fresh bread and croissants in the morning. But for 275 Quid a night for three people it’s pretty appalling value for money. No cooked breakfast. And not convenient for people carrying lots of luggage as we were after our trip. Have to handball it upstairs. The lady offered to refund something which I am yet to see. Premium price, premium room for sure but awful breakfast and shabby service.
