Riu properties have been my favorite properties to stay at by far. The drive to Playa Del Carmen was the worst part about it because you just want to get to where you’re going when you arrive. Once you arrive you drive in a gated area which immediately makes it feel safe. At Riu they have the best buffets and dinners. Eat at as many places as you want and whenever you want never having to wait or make any reservations for dinner. You can grab a plate for lunch and take it back to the beach to enjoy. They have servers on the beach and every where at all times, which is so convenient especially during their evening shows. The evening entertainment is the best at Riu all in one place where you can find it with comfortable seating. They have the best coffee machines making it so quick and convenient to get your coffee at anytime. You can also take it with you wherever you please. There is a small shopping center across from the resort making souvenir shopping convenient and easy to get to.

We spent 8 days at the RIU and had a wonderful time. We have stayed at a number of resorts in Cancun/Playa Del Carmen area and were very pleased with this resort. Pros- Food had lots of variety and tasted excellent. Rooms were simple but comfortable. Pools were nice with plenty of loungers for everyone although you need to place on a towel on a lounger earlier in the morning to secure a prime spot. Drinks were always flowing and bartenders were great at entertaining guests. Nightly entertainment was good with great seating options. No reservations were required for any of the dining options which was great! Cons- Alcohol was not top shelf but still mixed well. At the breakfast buffet omelet station they were always out of ingredients for making them other than ham and cheese. There is a language barrier with some staff but it was easily overcome. We speak English as did many quests. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach and in the ocean for most of our stay but it did get better the last day at the resort. Overall we would definitely go back to this RIU.
