Great place for kids with water park and cenote. Terrible check in and check out experience. No beach towels available as early as 11 am. Juice bar never had all selections on the menu and used artificial orange juice. Low quality food and flies in the cafes. Very unappetising. Rocks in the water on the beach impossible to swim. Night shows are decent. 2 good ones out of 6. I felt like staff was too patriotic and promoted Mexican pride everywhere possible.

I read a lot of reviews that were not good and so I was a bit apprehensive about my stay. However this property is fantastic and I believe some people have unrealistic expectations. This property is an eco resort and is in the jungle. Know this before you book this resort. It is lovely but there is wildlife all around and wildlife poops so sometimes you will encounter that. The staff however does a great job of keeping things clean. This is also not a foodie resort. The food is good and plentiful but not gourmet. This is a family resort and so great for kids. The main pool has tons of activities. The beach is rough but manageable. We kayaked everyday and the water was perfect for novice kayakers. Two things that could have been better but not deal breakers are the pool towels (hard to get fresh ones) and the dinner reservations (you have to reserve at midnight if you want the sit down places). The spa is fantastic and really reasonable. Bring bug spray. The mosquitos are in force but again it is a jungle.

Very disappointing. There were many things that were disappointing for the trip. I was traveling with 2 children, ages 8 and 10, and after being at other resorts for vacations this was definitely by far the worst. The room size was ok, but the air conditioning unit was not working enough to cool the room. My kids needed to sleep in the same bed as me to feel cool during the night because the full size sofa bed around the corner of the room did not get any cool air. The food in the buffet was below par. There were flies flying around and landing on the food, meats and cheeses were left out in the heat with no ice under or around them to keep cool and prevent spoiling, fruit was brown inside and ice cream was melted everyday despite it being kept in a freezer. The staff was not very helpful either, a few times it took more than 30 minutes for soda to be brought to the table so the kids were consistently complaining they were thirsty while eating. We tried to make dinner reservations for a restaurant and the app always showed no openings, concierge said reservations opened at midnight for the same day and needed to be made ASAP, even when I tried that everything was booked. My complaint did get us a reservation at the Italian restaurant which was much better than the buffet but we were only able to get in for 1 sitting. The majority of the staff were not helpful with room requests, or even just saying good morning when passing on the way to the pool or water slides. Not again

Dirty, noisy, rude staff, dirty pools and amenities, rooms are in bad condition, broken ac, mosquitoes everywhere. Restaurants without ac, food and drinks bad quality, the beach is not good at all. Shows are bad and not enough entertainment, not enough illumination in walk paths, and once again if they treat you good is because the want to sell you something. The store is super expensive! Also they’ve limited the access to outside food deliveries so if you order you’ll have to walk to the entrance of the property to pick it up. We all got stomach sick had to be the food or the drinks. Worst experience ever. And don’t even bother to share your thoughts with management they simply don’t care they won’t do anything about it.

This was my third time staying at the resort and by far the worst experience. The rooms need some repairs and upkeep it’s getting away from them. The service is terrible they need more staff to keep up with guest took 2hrs just to check in this place used to be exceptional I used to recommend it to everyone before but now I will not , the food used to taste amazing here and now everything was made in a rush with no flavor. I totally regretted booking my vacation on this resort

There is no way this is a 5 star resort! Didn’t get the rooms I booked. Was way over in adult only area but not allowed to use the pool there. Eventually got moved to much better location. Housekeeping was really random with what they supply the rooms with. Sometimes we would get more coffee, sometimes not. Sometimes more water and beverages, sometimes not. We had 1 coffee cup the whole time and could not get another. Not super clean. Tough to make restaurant bookings. Had to set alarm to wake up at midnight and still couldn’t get the Japanese restaurant. Whole place smells bad from bog water all the time. Food in buffets is not great. Nothing for gluten free person. All the bug spray dispensers are broken and not working. Everything quite run down. Staff wasn’t even that friendly. The only good thing is the animals all around the property! Sorry I don’t have more good things to say. I’ve stayed at a lot of resorts and this was just bad.

This resort was the worse resort we ever stayed at. The restaurants were all closed. The international buffet was the only buffet opened for two days. I went down early one morning to get coffee before it was opened and monkeys were walking over the food while the staff stood around taking videos. It was a horrible experience and booking through Expedia was even worse.

What I liked about staying at this resort was that they did a great job of preserving the mangroves and vegetation around the property. The wildlife I saw there were qoatis, capybaras & iguanas which are out and about the property all day. The spider monkeys come out at about 4pm until about 7pm I was lucky to be put in a room that was in the back of the resort rm 4711 and was able to feed the monkeys (mangos) from my balcony. The food options were also great along with the friendly service that the employees provide. The only thing I didnt like about the resort is the beach, it is really rocky in the water and their are alot of sea urchin so wear your water shoes. Also alot of mosquitoes because of the standing water that's around the resort but that's to be expected in a jungle. Overall my stay was great. P.S if you want a nice beach stay at Sandos Playacar.
