"Very traditional Japanese home. We were impressed with the decor and stunning view of Mt Fuji from upstairs rooms. We were unable to get a response for owner/mgr in regards to questions we had. We were able to get into the home following instructions sent via email, but we couldn't get the key to lock the home when we left. Also, there wasn't enough bedding provided for the amount of people we paid for. But we enjoyed ourselves and had a marvelously clear day for viewing Fujisan from the lake...

Toyoko Inn Fuji Kawaguchiko Ohashi

Toyoko Inn Fuji Kawaguchiko Ohashi

10/10 Excellent
"The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. There were many options for breakfast and it was started promptly exactly on time. The facility was completely adequate and the room was nice and tidy. I thought it was a fun touch that in the rooms they have prints that are inspired by traditional Japanese fabric prints. They also have ones of that same series in the hallways in the ground floor. They have little QR codes next to them so you can learn about the original fabric prints. I also appreciate it that they had spiritual books from many different faiths in the hotel room. Including a book on Buddhist philosophy. I found it very refreshing to have such an inclusive collection of books for people from different faiths who might be visiting from around the world. The communal spaces like the hallways looked like it had been a little while since a remodel. If you're someone who needs the most modern pristine Hotel you might not find this to be your favorite, but if you're like me and you care more about the staff and the convenience of the location and having an adequate room for very reasonable price then this was a great stay. I think some people who are more picky travelers might have complaints but I did not. I would definitely stay here again."

"We stayed on the 3rd floor and paid the "premium " for myt fuji view amd there was no mt. Fuji view. The view was road and a bunch of trees. So dont advise getting the 3rd floor to see mt. Fuji. Everything else about the hotel was pretty good other than their in room "hot tub" its not a hot tub, its jist a regular deep bath with hot water. I was leaning more towards 3Stars but the hotel was overall really nice and id stay again just wouldn't pay premium price."

Kasuitei Ohya

Kasuitei Ohya

10/10 Excellent
"We stayed one night at Kasuitei Ooya, and it turned out to be the highlight of our time in Japan. The ryokan gets the traditional experience right without it feeling staged โ€” tatami rooms, yukata, and a real sense of care in everything. Our room had a lake view and a private bath, which our teenagers enjoyed as much as we did. The kaiseki dinner was outstanding: beautifully presented course after course with local ingredients we didn't see anywhere else on the trip, and breakfast the next morning was just as good. The onsen is on the 7th floor, and the same floor has a viewing area where we caught the clearest Mt Fuji view of our stay at sunrise. What tied it all together was the staff. From check-in through to the shuttle back to the station, they were warm, unhurried, and seemed to anticipate what we needed before we asked. If you're deciding whether to build a ryokan night into a Japan trip, this is the place to do it."

8/10 Good
"The hotel was relatively modern, kept in good order and had a lovely rooftop deck. The staff were very kind and it was very convenient that they spoke English which I wasn't necessarily expecting. They didn't include many amenities in the room and there was no place to get amenities except at the front desk which was closed in the late evening and early morning. It would be nice if they maybe had a little amenities counter that they left out overnight because I didn't investigate which amenities were included in the room until after the desk was closed and then I needed some things that I couldn't get. I appreciate it that breakfast was included but there were very limited options that were preset and you had to schedule your meal time ahead of time which I found kind of stressful. But that might also just be a cultural difference. I think it would be more friendly to different dietary restrictions and perhaps less logistically difficult if they just had a few self service items people could course from. They were willing to accommodate my food issues which was appreciated. These are minor issues that were really more about my personal preference than anything else. It also did seem a little more pricey than other similar properties I stayed at in the area. Although the rooms were a little larger and the property was a little more updated. It's a lovely property and staff were great. Totally a fine place to stay in the area especially if you don't have my same preferences."

"This is an older hotel with a good history and a great location right across from the lake. The staff is unusually good most hotels do not take your luggage to your room anymore so it still has itโ€™s old good habits. I was very disappointed when I called it about 230 for the shuttle bus to the hotel. Took a while for them to answer the phone and then they said they couldnโ€™t come until 3 oโ€™clock because thatโ€™s when they start running the shuttle. That is not the kind of service I would expect from a hotel like this. I didnโ€™t mention it when I was there, but the Internet was really bad. I couldnโ€™t count on even getting my email out to my home and overseas in a reliable way. But if I had a choice, Iโ€™d probably go back again."
