"What I liked the most:
-The "nature" vibes of the hotel. Feels like you're in a "mini jungle". My 4 year old enjoyed walking and seeing different types of tropical habit animals. I liked the proximity to Xcaret park. Shows/activities were fun and even though my child did not want to stay at the kids club, I heard great things.
What I disliked the most:
Compared to other resorts I've been, the service was not the best though. In other similar resorts, they have servers coming to you all the time asking you if you need any drinks or snacks. At Occidental, they ask you maybe once and then they never come again. Same with buffets, they ask you one time what you want to drink when they first seat you, and then they never come again unless you go find them or call them. Also, the food is not bad but it's not the best. I don't usually have high expectations for buffet style food but in restaurants I expect them to be better. During my stay, three a la carte restaurants were open: Los Olivos (Italian/Mediterranean), Steak House (meats), La Hacienda (Mexican). The Oriental was closed all week. Los Olivos was the only one I would say was good. The other two (the Mexican and the Steakhouse) were basically buffet food disguised as "specialty restaurant" food. The Mexican food options were not a good selection and the meat quality in the Steakhouse was not good.
Having said that, the resort was great. I had a great experience and I would recommend it to friends and family with children."
