"Exceptional place to stay in Hakone, Highly recommended, a lot of things to do for kids including the indoor water park - only giving 4 out of 5 stars due to early check out times, we requested for 10-15 mins extra but was told we have to pay,
Apart from that an excellent place, will stay again here"

"Beautiful and funky property. The shared spaces were very nicely appointed with a room full of records and artsy books. Loved the indoor and outdoor onsens here as well. The tatami mats and floor seats were a unique experience as well. The only small negative is that it is a little off the beaten path but even with that point & that it was raining, we very much enjoyed our stay here and would recommend."

Hotel Suisen was the first ryokan I have stayed in and far exceeded my expectations. The hotel is small and very peaceful, set back from the winding road and just a few minutes walk downhill from the mountain railway station Ohiradai. It is very easily accessible from Tokyo and a Hakone Free Pass covers transport costs as well as the cable car. The staff were very friendly and courteous and provided a comprehensive introduction to the facilities, including the indoor and outdoor thermal baths....

Stunning hotel with amazing views across the lake, floor-to-ceiling windows in our room which was fantastically 1970s design in very high quality.
The onsen overlooking the lake was also glorious.
The breakfast. Buffet was fantastic and the staff were brilliant. Hakone’s sightseeing boat goes from next door and is a must.

The stay at Yusakaso left nothing to be desired. The staff and meals were excellent. The room was large and quiet. The public baths were nice and clean. The outdoor mixed gender as well as the time in the private bath are perfect to share a bath with a partner.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough. The staff were helpful and courteous at all times, the room was outstanding, the food was some of the finest I’ve ever eaten and the experience was amazing.
We opted for the Japanese style room with a private outdoor bath, we were supplied with kimono’s and all the toiletries we would ever need. I could have lived in the bath forever, it was huge and the water was boiling hot (you can cook it down with the shower next to it). We had dinner in the room...

A beautiful hotel. We had a large and well appointed bedroom on 6th floor with a balcony overlooking the stunning green landscape with a spring water bath and swing chair. Staff can’t do enough and you feel very well looked after. Nice touches such as free drinks and ice cream. Wonderful onsen and Japanese garden. Very extensive breakfast buffet. It’s a large hotel and was very noisy when we arrived but was quiet and peaceful after that and had a wonderful air of calmness. Get very clear and...

It is just a lovely retreat in a beautiful location. The hotel rooms are a lovely minimalist Japanese design, and the staff couldn't be more helpful. I wish we had more time to stay here longer, and it's one of the very few places I would absolutely return to without hesitation.

Room was fantastic, the in-room onsen was an amazing bonus. But the view wasn’t really ‘mountain’ - instead it was a giant bush and men doing work. While the hotel is supposed to be in a remote setting, it is a bit inconvenient to get to with a lack of amenities/dining options and no guidance from the hotel. The gym facilities were appalling for a five star hotel.
