"Clean room and comfy bed"

"The property is beautiful, private balcony with private onsen were AMAZING! Room was comfortable and well laid out. That part is definitely a 5*. The staff were friendly, mostly helpful, but not so much if you got there early. They did take your stuff, but didn't help with directions on how to catch the bus or where to walk. The food is where this property lost a star (I'd give it a 3, maybe upper 2). The dining area is beautiful and peaceful. The actual food needs some work. The first course was set out 10 min early and was meant to be warm, we arrived on time and it was cold. They proceeded to bring out each course in rapid succession and we had a ton of food in front of us. Not a proper kaiseki meal. As we dug in the food was ok, how they managed dry fish in soup is beyond me. I'd stay here again - but would skip the food and enjoy it in town instead. One other note - if you stay here know its at least 30min away from the lake and the majority of the Hakone Loop. So I'd suggest accounting for that in your time planning. "

"This place is over 100 years old and because of that, it has its quirks but I think it adds character to the ryokan experience. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The kaiseki dinner was delicious but it was a lot of food. We had to request to serve us one less meal so we didn’t waste too much. The service and ambiance was great. The onsens were a perfect touch to end our days. We would definitely stay here again!"

"The hosts makes this entire stay. Very welcoming and friendly. Shoes are placed out in front in the morning before you leave, and the host walks you through the entire place to show you around. I highly recommend this place for couples or small groups. Warning: beds are traditional and on the floor so pretty hard. Shared shower room could be hard if staying multiple nights. We stayed one night so did not effect us as much. Also, everything in the area is a walk! keep this in mind when looking for food or things to do."

"We loved our stay here, the bath on the balcony was so relaxing and peaceful and there are both public and private onsens that can be used when available. My husband and I used the private onsens and enjoyed the free ice cream and drinks also available at all times. The kaiseki breakfast and dinners were a great experience and a good opportunity to try traditional Japanese cuisine. The staff are very kind, welcoming and friendly and it’s about a 10 minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto station."
