At first glance, Thailand's bustling capital city may seem like one of the last places on Earth where people would travel for a quiet holiday in the countryside. A few countryside hotels in Bangkok do exist, however, on the city's outskirts and around the Suvarnabhumi Airport area. The airport is also less than 40kms east of central Bangkok.
One place to stay on the short list of countryside hotels in Bangkok is the Thong Ta Resort And Spa. This modest three-star establishment may not be one of the most expensive or luxurious hotels close to Suvarnabhumi Airport, but it is certainly one of the most relaxing and family-friendly places to stay in this section of greater Bangkok.
The Thong Ta Resort and Spa is located directly north of Suvarnabhumi Airport in a suburb called Lat Krabang. The property's location is also south of a major toll motorway and a busy street filled with places to eat and shop. All of these sights can easily be seen from this establishment's rooftop terrace. Breakfast is served for free every morning and all rooms include Select Comfort beds.
Even though the Thong Ta Resort and Spa guest rooms are fairly modest, the onsite spa is truly luxurious with a tremendous variety of massage types and herbal therapies. The open air restaurant serves both Thai and international dishes. Golfers should know the Royal Golf Club is just a 10-minute drive away.
There are a few peaceful temples and small villages located north of Lat Krabang, but in order to find a true countryside getaway, visitors must travel half an hour south to the Samut Prakan. This sparsely populated province's main attractions are its crocodile farm and zoo as well as its Ancient City open air museum.
