The COVID-19 outbreak may have changed how we travel, but it hasn't shut down our zest for exploring. Here are a few tips on how to cope with the new challenges of travelling:

• Research if any travel restrictions apply to your destination and origin before booking. Also check if there are any conditions you'll need to follow on arrival, such as undergoing health assessments.
• When you pass through airport checkpoints, keep your face mask on. You will be asked to lower it briefly for identification purposes. Anyone refusing to wear a mask may be fined and denied boarding.
• To minimize the risk of cross-contamination, position your boarding pass on the reader yourself and then hold it up for inspection. Do not hand your boarding pass directly to a TSA employee.
• You are now permitted to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your hand luggage. You'll have to remove it for X-ray screening.
• To reduce handling during the screening process, place items such as your loose change and phone into your carry-on rather than the bins.
• Transport all food items in a clear plastic bag and also put them in a screening bin. Keeping your food separate from your carry-on makes it less likely that a TSA employee will need to open and touch your bag for inspection.

As countries begin to open their borders, many airlines have resumed services with new strategies including social distancing and an increased supply of face masks, gloves and sanitizer. Here's what a few carriers are doing to help limit the spread of COVID-19:

• Air Canada - this airline is known for conducting passenger temperature checks and cleaning with disinfectant.
• Central Mountain Air - this airline is known for keeping the middle seat empty and cleaning with disinfectant.
