Stratford Manor Hotel

4/10 Poor

"For a 4 star hotel, this isn't an ideal place to stay when there is a heatwave. The room we were given was unbearably hot and we couldn't open our windows; no air con. The fans were poor and didn't do anything. Myself being pregnant and having a 5 year old, we couldn't stay here so ended up having to find another accommodation. There was a couple of timed power outages which also ruined the experience. I would say the only good thing about this hotel was the swimming pool."

Walton Hall Hotel & Spa by Sunday

"Had historic room but was up two flights of stairs and no lift. Restaurant meant a walk outside. Weather was good but would be a problem if not. Breakfast was £13. Was ok. Pool was £12 per day which we did not know until we arrived. Plenty of parking and lovely grounds. Some parts greatly in need of refurbishment."

"The night we arrived the hotel would not seat us for dinner. "Too busy" they said, "order food from the bar." We ordered food from the bar but they lost the order, though we had prepaid it. They had also lost the receipt for our payment. The result after more than two hours is we were left stranded with no dinner at a late hour when all the restaurants in town were closed. We had to leave the hotel on foot and buy sandwiches from an all night convenience store. The hotel offered no compensation other than a "free drink" coupon, useless to us (I don't drink). Altogether one of the worst hospitality blunders ever."

"The room and front of house staff were faultless. Facilities (pool) and the room just what we were looking for. However really wish we hadn't eaten in the restaurant. We waited an hour for our food. With a very hungry 8 year old, which was far from ideal to be honest. We sat down at 6.45pm and food arrived at 7.45pm! The breakfast was lovely, and lots of choice. From yoghurt to fruit, cooked breakfast to pastries. Overall lovely stay just not very impressed with the restaurant wait times, could definitely be improved."

"Hotel is very clean. The building its very beautiful, and there are options to choose the rooms. Restaurant is lovely too. Very good location with sightseeing. Downside is the wall is a bit thin, but this is quite common in most hotels. Would definitely recommend to anyone."

Chesford Grange Hotel

"The hotel and facilities are absolutely beautiful. The grounds are well maintained and the rooms modern. However, we experienced multiple issues with the disorganisation of the hotel and staff. When booking the spa the online booking system didn’t work, I tried to book over the phone and was passed from staff member to staff member and put on hold multiple times. When I finally managed to book, the confirmation email I received revealed the treatments were booked wrong. And it took another load of back and forth to correct. We had ordered two vegan meals for lunch, one was incorrect and we waited 40 minutes for a replacement. The staff had run out of a few of the cocktails on the already limited menu and once we finally managed to order something they did have, the service was very slow. When checking into our room, the staff at reception sent us in the wrong direction, so we ended up walking up and down the stairs and across the hotel with very heavy bags. The room was lovely and spacious, but we booked it for 4 people and the sink was blocked, meaning it took a while to drain which was not ideal for so many people using it. The spa treatments were lovely, the staff were very talented and products used felt of good quality. The facilities were nice and clean. Overall I would book again, as it is a beautiful hotel, but lacking organisation."
