The staff at this hotel are outstanding. The room is stylish but not fancy - good quality furnishings and fittings. The was my second stay and I love it. The food in the restaurant is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Just remember access to the car park is behind the hotel and a narrow entrance that you might miss first time! Plenty of spaces though!

Lovely location. Cosy room. Friendly staff and locals. Excellent cooked breakfast. Restaurant area looked nice but we were attending an evening function so didn't get to try it out. Would definitely recommend. Lots of parking. Peaceful. Excellent value.

I am kind of reluctant to write this as I want to keep this little Gem a secret all for myself, but I have to share with you all what a wonderful place the Bel and Dragon is. Right from the start I was greeted by a roaring log fire and a friendly face at checkout, whilst being shown my room the complementary 10yr and 12yr old whiskeys for the guests to sample where pointed out. The room was immaculate and decorated to a very fine finish. The pub its self has a great vibe it was a Weds and...

We had a friendly welcome from Jane and her staff. The room was comfortable and breakfast was excellent. The pub closed early on Sunday night, so we had to go elsewhere for food, but it meant a very peaceful night. Strongly recommended!

Whenever I'm down that way, the Bird in Hand is always the first place I look for availability. Not the biggest place but then the attraction is that it isn't one of those sterile chain hotels. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, the beds are comfortable, the meals plentiful and the breakfast filling. All in all the perfect stopover.

Old building full of character

Our welcome from Alijia was very warm and friendly. She couldn’t do any more to make us very welcome. All staff were very attentive. Our room was comfortable but the shower needs an overhaul. Good pressure on shower, but curtain not good. Breakfast was excellent. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will return.

Absolutely fantastic stay in a lovely cosy pub. Staff could not have been more helpful. The room we stayed in was amazing add to this the fantastic food and atmosphere and it all adds up to a memorable stay. We will be back again.

excellent base for a short break, comfortable well equipped room, good food and on-site parking

Very pleased to find it in a small village outside reading, with several medieval houses and near the river, though not on it. good restaurant and pub, and very busy.

Nice hotel and had a lovely meal in restaurant. It was a bit noisy due to private party but that’s our issue due to going to sleep early! Good breakfast too.

The room was large, bright and clean with the added bonus of a fan. Staff were polite and helpful. Evening meal was superb. If we are in Harpenden again we will definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful experience at the Lambert Arms. When we checked in we were met by happy and helpful staff and they even upgraded us to a courtyard view. The staff recommended the restaurant for an evening meal but we weren't sure. We decided to try out the restaurant that night and boy was that the best decision we ever made! The food was sensational....... my wife's chicken burger was "the best I've ever had", my duck was delicious and the desserts were incredible. I recommend the sticky...

lovely little find. Room was lovely, beautifully decorated. Fridge and aircon which are invaluable when travelling with work. Room was a little small, the others looked larger so would book one of these next time. Only improvement would be remove the shower curtains and replace with glass, no one likes a shower curtain!!
