Marriott International has announced a new joint venture with Spanish brand AC Hotels that will expand its international portfolio.
The new partnership will rebrand more than 90 AC Hotels in Europe to "AC Hotels by Marriott," which will increase Marriott's presence in Spain, Italy and Portugal by roughly 9,100 rooms.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Marriott. The new co-brand combines the strengths of both AC Hotels' exceptional product and expertise and the power of Marriott's engines, global footprint and the power of its development organization," Antonio Catalan, chairman of the Spanish company, said in news release. He also noted that AC Hotels will be "aggressively pursuing" additional opportunities for expansion in Europe and Latin America.
This comes as a great perk to members of Marriott's loyalty program, as they will be able to build and redeem reward points through the 90-plus new locations throughout Europe once the joint venture is complete, which is expected to be in May of this year.
Marriott's partnership with AC Hotels is part of its effort to increase its available rooms in Europe to 80,000.
