Tucked along the Delores River about 25 miles south of Telluride, Rico provides a perfect base for hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, hunting, and fishing. With a summer population of only about 500, the town has a hotel, 2 restaurants, a market, and a liquor store--a far cry from the 23 saloons, 14 hotels, and 3-block red-light district of its prosperous mining heyday of the late 1800s.
