something different
The room & public areas were spotlessly clean & the staff were always friendly & extremely helpful.. No frills but most things one requires in a bedroom apart from much drawer space. We found plenty of choice at breakfast., & it was nice looking out onto the central garden. There is a very good public park very near & only a 15 minute walk to the Boboli Gardens so altogether a good choice for the sensible tourist.

Hidden gem
This is a historic hotel and an experience to stay in it. The hotel was a hospital until 1392 and became a convent after that. It has a wonderful courtyard where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine.

Bus stop right outside that goes to the centre of the city and train station which is fab but there’s not much around the hotel if you feel like a lazy night and just want to get dinner near the hotel, other than a pizza shop.

Simple and comfortable
Quiet hotel. Very simple rooms, clean and comfortable. About a mile from the centre of Florence - easy to walk to. Staff were really helpful. Breakfast choices were good. All in all, a good base for our holiday.

Great old convent experience!
My husband and I stayed at this property for a workshop and we were pleasantly surprised. The location is great, just inside the old town walls and walking distance to the Ponte Vecchio. There is a Hop On Hop Off Bus stop just up the road but we didn't use it - we walked everywhere and only took a taxi (cheap and fast) when going further to eg Accedamia Gallery). To stay in an old convent as Australians is a unique experience so we found it very special. The property was reasonably priced, quiet, very clean and comfortable. The rooms were large and I loved the shelving storage space in the room - it's great to be able to unpack for a few days instead of living out of a suitcase I highly recommend this property and would stay here again. I am a travel agent and will definitely be recommending this property to my clients in the future. Thank you Convitto Del Calza for a lovely stay :-)

Youth hostel accommodation at 4* prices
This is a converted nunnery, VERY small stuffy rooms, mosquitoes, tiny shower, sort of a hike from central sights down a busy road. HOW it gets 4.5 stars is beyond me, I wonder why I didn't check it out further before booking.

Wonderful location and staff
If you are prepared for a convent-setting as we were, it is a wonderful place to stay and an amazing location. You can walk everywhere and there are also several buses that get you quickly to the historic area or the train station. Because rooms are accessed from a central courtyard, its also very safe. No one enters the hotel without going through the reception. Breakfasts are also very good and there is a really pleasant and cheery individual on duty most of the time.

The hotel is located in the other side if the Arno which is a less touristic part. It was a very good value for the price. The breakfast was simple but very good, the rooms are nice and very good service. It's about 15 minutes walk from Ponte vecchio. Allows to experience Florence from a different and less touristic point of view.

Good hotel in Florence
My husband and I really liked this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is good. It is not too far from the Pitti Palace and the Ponte Vecchio bridge. There is a convenient bus stop across from the hotel also. The hotel is quiet and peaceful. There is a good breakfast included. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Okay for a one night stand
This was a one night stay. The room is a made modern monks cell in an old monastery updated to a hotel. Rooms are small by American standards. Location is good, off the beaten track but just up the road from the Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens and then Ponte Vecchio. On a bus line. Not many restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. The shower is the smallest shower I have ever been in but it worked okay. Breakfast exceptional, staff very helpful. Posturpedic mattress was great.

Convitto is very good value!
A short visit to Florence with other family members. We stayed at Convitto for convenience of parking and because it's close enough to the important places. The staff are very polite and helpful, the hotel itself has the atmosphere of a monastic institution, which to me is charming. The rooms are very clean and usable. I would certainly recommend this as a good value place to stay.

Comfortable hotel for an excellent price
The Convitto provided an excellent base for visiting the major attractions - museums, galleries, churches, the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, bridges etc. being very close to the Boboli gardens and a short walk to the river. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room very comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

It is a quite and boring hotel
The hotel provide breakfast, but for the 5 days we stayed there, it seems we are the only family eat there. The food is not bad at all. They have coffee machine making cappuccino, latte milk, hot chocolate, and other hot drink choice. They provide warm milk for cereal that is very nice. Cooked dates is very nice. There are two kinds of juice. Yogurt, but no eggs in the morning. Croissants are warm. The hotel is clean and quite. The front desk lady helped us planed trips to Pisa and Siena. The location is little bit out of the center, but Florence is small, every where is in walkable. We do not see that is a big problem. It's a hotel nothing is wrong, but not excited about.

Tell it like it is
You would think that it would be a neat to stay in a convent, but mark my words, not really. If it had old world charm than great, but it did not. It's a run down 50's style building made for nuns with no expectations of luxury. It's a beyond basic room with four walls, two single terrible beds slapped together and a joke of a bathroom. Am I being harsh, not really if your paying $50 a night, but more than that your being pick pocketed and for us it was pure robbery.

$200 basic room, living like a nun
The rooms remind me of a convent. It was extremely old, basic, and not much luxury for the expensive price. Having said this, there are 2 bus routes right outside the front door which was nice. However, for the price we should have gotten more for our money. Would try a different hotel next time.

Great facility. Definitely an old convent. The history is remarkable - ask for a pamphlet from the desk clerk. Staff was great and the location was relatively close (if you like to walk) to most of the sights. Hotel was clean, roomy and a place I would stay next time.

An inexpensive convenient alternative
This is a cheap and convenient option for Florence... small rooms and simple and basic facilities.. but clean and convenient. AC is ok but a bit noisy. Great to get the hop-on hop-off bus right across the street for touring Florence.

Well located hotel that does the job well
This is a simple but comfortable place, by no means luxurious. However, the rooms are up to date and clean. The location is excellent: a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Arno. There is a local bus stop for the 36/37 bus, which goes to Santa Maria Novella and the Central Train Station, just outside the front door. There is also a stop for the number 12 bus, which heads to San Miniato al Monte on the roundabout a few steps away.

Wonderful accommodation walking distance to sites
Our stay here was a great experience! The staff members were very warm and accommodating, and the lodging is sooo unique. There is even a famous renaissance fresco in one of the dining rooms! It is right next to the Porta Romana, Florence's south gate, and also is across the street from the Boboli Gardens. It was wonderful to stay in a residential area with its own bakeries, restaurants and shops, but still be only a 20 minute walk away from the city center. There were very few tourists in the neighborhood. If you want to discover Florence at your own pace, I highly recommend Convitto della Calza. It is also a great value. The rooms were simple and modest, but impeccably clean, and the bathrooms are all new. If you get a chance, get the full or half-board plan, where the on-site chefs cook dinner... most amazing home-cooked Tuscan food you will ever find!!! I will be staying here each time I visit Florence, and I highly recommend it to anyone- young or mature couples, families, and also solo travelers.

It felt like Italy!
My husband and I like hotels with a " a local feel", good service but not overly attentive. We like to come and go on our own but get some help with tours and general information. The desk staff was very helpful in this way. It was a nice location, very culturally Italian feeling including the church and bell tower. I love that the windows were shuttered but we could open them to lean out for air and a great view. The room was very clean and our only complaint (which we did not air there) was that we had 2 single beds. We pushed them together but our reservation specified a double bed. Breakfast was great and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. If we are lucky enough to get back to Florence, we will definitely stay there again.

nice hotel, but... parking isn't free
The hotel is a bit far from the city center. There are 3 buses that take you straight there, and you can also walk (15 minutes). The parking ISN'T free and doesn't even belong to the hotel. There's public parking behind the hotel which you pay for (up to 55 euros a day on weekends, 20 on weekdays). The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are modest and nice. The bed has a frame so if you're over 6'5'' skip this hotel.

Hotel antigo e mal conservado; recepcionista grossa e mal educada; café da manhã com poucas opções e poucas variedades; porta do banheiro quebrada; muitos pernilongos no quarto. Porém, boa localização. Preço incompatível com o oferecido.
