"Very nice hotel, great location"
Very pleasant hotel, beautifully decorated. Rooms were very comfortable (stayed in the new section, so I don't know how the renovated prison cells looked like, but I imagine they would be nice too). The location was very central, both near to the train station and to the town center, so it was easy to walk everywhere in town. Great value and experience overall.

"OK hotel"
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights when visiting Oxford due to its high rating. We stayed at a room in Elm house, one of the three buildings that belong to this hotel. The room is quite small with a queen bed and a buck bed. TV is not working at all. The floor is not flat with the center sinking down which makes the desk on which the TV is put not leveled. I am always worried the cup will slip down to the floor. The carpet was not vacuumed the next day we came back.

The room was a little darkly decorationed and the food in the bar was over priced for my palet of taste but it was an overall lovely hotel.

We went for a two night break to The Cotswolds and Oxford. The hotel was perfectly positioned just on the edge of the city.

The Maytime Inn

"Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful location"
The outside of The Maytime Inn looks great, charming and a place you just want to walk into. There was a car park at the back, through which you can access the Inn.The gardens are beautiful and I should think in the summer it is wonderful place to while away a few hours, overlooking stunning countryside. The Inn looks like it has been recently refurbished, however that was back in 2012.It looks and feels comfortable and if you like gin, then all your Christmas' have arrived in one go.I lost count of the number of different bottles of gin.Dom, the owner, was behind the bar serving customers when we arrived. He welcomed us and sorted out some milk for our tea and coffee, before taking us to our room,The Tack Room was outside by the garden. It was immaculate, and very clean. There was plentiful tea and coffee, and wonderful hot chocolate sachets along with a delightful slice of cake. The room was a mixture of old and new,but it went well.We went for dinner and enjoyed the food, all freshly cooked, sadly we couldn't ,manage a pudding, but the savouries were great. The drinks list seemed endless and all served with a smile - all the staff seemed happy to be there. We slept well,it was very peaceful, and the shower was powerful enough to wake us up, and the towels large, soft and fluffy. The was by the garden as I said and I'm not sure how easy it would be to have an early night if people were talking outside.Breakfast was plentiful, cereals, bread and cakes, plus cooked items - A great find!

"Nice hotel, very good food"
I felt that we should have been told that our room was in the eaves. We are both tall, and you could only stand up in 25% of the room, having to limbo out of bed etc. I'm sure another room at the hotel would be fine, but this does not make for comfort, and I would not stay in these rooms again, nor recommend them to anyone.

"Mercure Oxford Eastgate"
This hotel couldn't be more convenient for the centre of Oxford, but, since it is located on one of the quaint and quiet lanes of the old town, it was also very relaxing. Immediately upon arrival we were greeted with warm smiles and helpfulness, even though we arrived somewhat before the advertised booking-in time. Every member of staff was welcoming and helpful, including the restaurant staff.

"A wonderful place to stay"
What a treat to stay at The Head of the River! As someone who grew up with the Narnia stories, to be given the CS Lewis room to stay in got my visit off to an excellent start. The room was gorgeous, the bed extremely comfortable, the food delicious, and the staff incredibly helpful (I arrived feeling very unwell, and the lovely receptionist not only got me the number of a medical centre, but called them to find out about how, as a tourist, I could go about getting an appointment). I would recommend this hotel, and hope to revisit it sometime. And of course, then there is Oxford: what a wonderful place to spend a few days.
