Sun worshippers rejoice on this lively beach known for its action-packed water sports, boutique hotels, wall-to-wall sunshine and buzzing nightlife.

One of Asia’s most popular beaches, Pattaya Beach is bustling at all times of day and night. During the day, the pristine sands fill with visitors from across the globe and the ocean is dotted with windsurfers, jet-skis and water scooters. When the sun goes down, the nearby bars, restaurants and clubs come to life and spill out onto the beach, showing Pattaya’s glittering nightlife at its best. Local vendors hawk their wares at all hours and the good-natured party vibe is contagious.

Pattaya Beach has been attracting tourists since the 1960s. Encompassing a 4-kilometre crescent of sand that runs along Pattaya’s north western border, Pattaya Beach has now given rise to several other neighbouring beaches which have become tourist destinations in their own right.

Take to the water on a banana boat, or soar into the sky on a parasail ride. Take a boat trip to the coral island of Kho Larn for some diving, snorkelling or fishing. Or just rent a deckchair, order a fresh coconut or a cocktail and watch the show as locals come by to sell everything from sarongs to lottery tickets and traditional Thai massages.

Head to Beach Road for some great shopping. Boutique shops offer everything from clothes to jewellery and Thai handicrafts, and a number of restaurants and bars offer ample opportunity to cool off and grab a bite to eat. When the sun goes down, head in the direction of the Central and Southern areas for some fine dining and a peek into the more racy side of Pattaya’s nightlife. If you’re looking for something a little more family-friendly, then stick to the bars and eating establishments at the northern end of the beach.

Pattaya Beach can get crowded, especially at weekends, but the quieter beaches are just a short walk away. The beach is clean and safe for swimming.
