Explore the heart of Vegas with its huge casinos, clubs and bars, as well as its dazzling neon lights and notorious wedding chapels.

The epicentre of Las Vegas is the six-kilometre stretch known as 'The Strip'. Back in the mid-1940s this was the place where the first casinos and hotels appeared. Mobster Bugsy Siegel built one of the earliest, the Flamingo. Not long after in 1959, the famous 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada' sign was erected. And now this spot is on the National Register of Historic Places.

You'll immediately recognise it from many classic Hollywood movies, the luxurious hotels and casinos, decadent spas and pools, as well as the captivating nightlife all lending the place a glittering charm. On the skyline you'll see the Egyptian-themed, pyramid-shaped Luxor hotel, the classic MGM Grand, Roman-style Caesars Palace, exotic Treasure Island and Bellagio with its illuminated fountain show – all of which are among America's most legendary destinations.

At the Paris hotel you can ride to the top of the replica Eiffel Tower. Or tour Manhattan in miniature at the New York-New York Casino. Head to the Venetian where you can take a gondola ride on a canal, or admire the lava-spewing volcano at the Mirage. Then go and check out the gaming floors and see if your luck is in, making the most of everything Vegas has to offer.

Though quieter by day, The Strip is more family-friendly and a great place for visitors of all ages to come and visit the shops. You can also enjoy something to eat at one of the restaurants and snack bars, whether you're in the mood for a five-course meal or just a burger and shake.

Then when the evening comes, you can go back out and see Las Vegas at its best. Every night of the year, The Strip is a great place to head for a memorable night out.

Situated just outside the city limits, the Las Vegas Strip takes just 10 minutes to reach by car from downtown. Taxi, as well as minibus or monorail, is the best way to get around as traffic moves slowly and parking can be costly.
