"100 years old and still looking great"
We went on vacation. I was looking for a hotel with an indoor pool. This hotel has a lot of character. Yes it's old but very well preserved and cared for. This hotel does NOT smell old. It looked awesome. You will marvel at the ceilings, walls and doors. I went back in time where the movie stars went to the Oscars. Loved it. Location was excellent, close to beaches and close to touristy activities

"Don't let the Look fool you!"
Apon arriving, we didn't think much of the hotel until we went inside. It was very nice, clean, and beautiful. The area, though not perfect, the hotel was a pleasant surprise. It is located about 10 minutes from the Griffiths Observatory, between two subway stations and major freeway. Local streets lead to awesome sightseeing and tourist areas. The staff were always friendly.

"Across the Street from LA Live..."
We had a gala to attend at The Event Deck at LA Live. It was black tie and we planned on consuming adult beverages, so wanted to stay at a hotel close enough to walk to the event. Downtown Los Angeles is not a town you really want to walk around at night. (The area around Staple Center and LA Live has cleaned up a bit, but get past a block or two and forget it. The Luxe at City Center was absolutely PERFECT! It is directly across the street from the LA Live complex (and not too far from Staples Center, if you wanted to stay in LA to watch the Lakers or?). The hotel is fairly new. The decor had a old Hollywood glam/Regency style to it. The rooms were well stocked mini bar, ice buckets, and with the usual toiletries, but also terry robes and slippers. The shower (no tub) was roomy, but the "shower spray head" was clogged with calsium deposits, so was not fully funtional...not a big deal, just noted. The beds were super comfortable, with feather tops and quality sheets/bedding. Great view from our room overlooking the LA Live center. Windows needed cleaning, but again just a note... The staff was excellent! Attended to our needs, but not pushy or overly intrusive. Perfect balance! I would consider this an adult hotel and not the best place, if you have small children (we don't, (all grown up and out) so loved the peace and quiet elegance:) A big thanks to all at the Luxe and we look forward to our next stay!

"Centrally located for doing business downtown"
I travel for business to downtown LA about 5-6 times a year. This was my first stay at DoubleTree by Hilton. I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. The location was great for my purposes, the hotel was in mint condition, lobby, facilities, room etc. The staff was probably the nicest folks I have met during all of my stays in hotels. They all truly seemed happy to be working there - which says a lot. From valet, to front desk, room service etc. service was flawless - and it should be noted I am very hard to please and typically very critical. So two thumbs up! Food was excellent as well - both roomservice and at Justice.

"Great stay!"
Hotel Amarano was in a great location for us, easy to get to other spots in LA while there. The hotel is updated, clean, and the staff friendly. Nice location with some good local restaurants and convenient shopping nearby. I would definitely recommend to others.

    Pocket Guide: Los Angeles

Home to a bevy of superstars and wannabes, Los Angeles is a buzzing multicultural melting pot blessed by around 330 days of sunshine each year. Long regarded as the hub of modern cinema, the City of Angels plays host to the film industry's glitzy night of nights, the Academy Awards, each year at Hollywood's Kodak theater. From the iconic Hollywood sign to the Walk of Fame, there are countless camera opportunities to be had, as well as the chance to enjoy some star-spotting!

    On the big screen

Film buffs will appreciate a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the magic of the silver screen at Universal Studios Hollywood, and music fans should make a stop at Capitol Records' circular tower on Vine Street. The label's studios are renowned for their unique acoustic properties, and are the home of big-name artists such as the Beastie Boys, Frank Sinatra, and Lily Allen.

If the hype and glamour of Tinseltown gets to be a bit too much, take a break at one of Los Angeles' famous white sandy beaches. Stretching over 72 miles, there's something to suit every taste, from colorful Venice Beach to Malibu's epic surfing beaches. Or you could hire an open-top car and take the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica past LA's multi-million-dollar beachside mansions. This state highway offers one of America's best scenic drives, from wild coastal scrub to expansive beach views. And with a mild year-round Mediterranean climate, you'll find it easy to while away a lazy afternoon in the sun.

    Multicultural mode

As the second-largest city in the United States, and with more than 220 different languages spoken by its residents, Los Angeles has a truly diverse identity. Used as a backdrop to films including 'Rush Hour' and 'Lethal Weapon 4', Chinatown is the perfect place to catch an independent art exhibition or sit down to a Peking Duck.

Step back in time along Olvera Street, regarded as the birthplace of Los Angeles, where Mexican and Latino culture is kept alive with traditional market stalls and restaurants. Or check out the many clubs and karaoke bars (noraebangs) in Koreatown, well-known for its thriving nightlife.

    Rodeo Drive, baby

Of course, Los Angeles is all about retail therapy, and where better to indulge than in one of the city's legendary shopping enclaves. See and be seen along trendy Melrose Avenue, where big international designers vie for attention, or dig out some rare vintage finds on La Brea Avenue. For the ultimate in LA style, have your own 'Pretty Woman' moment on Rodeo Drive, where the rich and famous top up their Chanel, Gucci, and Cartier collections.

A city of style and opportunities, it's no wonder Los Angeles has long been a magnet for travellers and young hopefuls alike. With its mix of fame, glamour, and natural beauty, there's no doubt the magic of the City of Angels lives on.
