About Sukhumvit

Bangkok’s downtown area, which is commonly referred to as Sukhumvit, is named after the main road that stretches through this district. The area is famous for its nightlife, shopping and restaurants, but also contains several interesting tourist landmarks to uncover. Traffic clogs the area almost 24 hours a day, but thanks to the Sky Train and subway train networks, access to Sukhumvit’s main sites is relatively easy.

Don’t Miss

Bangkok’s Sukhumvit neighbourhood is filled with a number of fun, interesting and historic landmarks.

Several entertaining museums rest along downtown Sukhumvit. One of the most interesting sites is the Kamthieng House Museum, which is a traditional Thai teak house that was built in 1964. The National Science Centre for Education is another museum that will entertain children and adults alike.

After a long day of sightseeing and shopping, Sukhumvit’s parks provide a fantastic place to sit and relax. Benchasiri Park was created to commemorate the Queen Sirikit’s 60th birthday, and offers a small but delightful green space for visitors. The much larger Benjakiti Park welcomes thousands of locals and tourists each day. It is situated between Sukhumvit and Klong Toei.

Sukhumvit is where tourists can find a huge range of massage services. Whether tourists are looking for the more down market massage parlours, or a refined spa experience, there are plenty of options available. Getting a traditional Thai massage is highly recommended.

Restaurants and Bars

Sukhumvit has an enormous range of restaurants, dining areas, and after-hours establishments. Tourists can find so many different styles of foods, including Korean, Japanese, Italian, French, and Western fast food outlets. Pub venues also offer great dining choices. Thai cuisine is found in restaurants, although the many food stalls along the main road offer a wide variety of inexpensive noodle and rice dishes, such as pad Thai, ba mee and som tam. Bars and clubs are located throughout the district. Nana and the nearby Soi Cowboy strip are the main red light districts, while places like Soi 33, Soi 11 and Thong Lo boast fantastic pubs and nightclubs for tourists.

Shopping

The Nana area features a nightly market, and plenty of clothing, accessories and food stalls open along Sukhumvit Road. Sukhumvit is more famous for its shopping malls, which include the relatively new Terminal 21 Complex, and the well-known Emporium Shopping Mall.
