"We stayed for six days. And overall, our experience was very positive. The snorkeling by the bridge that connected us to the main island was filled with lots of different kinds of fish, which made snorkeling a major draw to the hotel to come back next year. The tide was quite high compared to normal, and so the beach was very small and the sea covered a large part of the beach access. However, we were informed that this was very rare, and that normally there is a lot of beach on that side of the hotel. The seaweed wasn’t too horrible, except for a day or two, but across the bridge on the main section of the island there were dozens of people racking up the seaweed and piling it. We were impressed with the courtesy of the staff, and they always smiled and greeted us and were attentive to our needs. Because it was not very full, they closed two restaurants, and we only had access to two restaurants plus the buffet. We did get tired of eating the same dinner because the menus didn’t change, but the food was good. We were surprised that they invited us to a meeting where they convinced us to join their club membership, which is supposed to entitle us to a better choice of rooms and more catering to us and discounted prices. We haven’t used it yet, but we’re expecting it to be a good investment and a place to return for the snorkeling adventure. Our son who had a different room didn’t have hot water in his shower, but they moved him to another room with hot water."

"Room #8 must have been vacant for awhile and it was extremely hot for about 12 hours. The air conditioner did its job though. The room was incredibly clean and kept clean by the staff. Only a few employees had good English so communication was hit & miss. Location is fabulous and the views spectacular."

"Na Balam is a lush oasis in the heat of the day. We stayed three nights in a ground level room with two double beds and a twin sized couch. There was also a couch on the porch which was an excellent reading nook/porch hangout. The service was great—adored the hotel staff. Na Balam isn’t beach front. The sister property across the street is and you go through it to get to the beach. It’s about a 90 second walk. The breakfast is pretty good. They give you coffee, half of a homemade English muffin (excellent), avocado (winning), eggs (meh), yogurt and homemade granola (excellent), and toast (dried out), fruit, and juice (cantaloupe juice was great, orange was watery but good). The breakfast service is very slow, so plan for that. You have a view of gorgeous beach calling to you from the dining room. We had aguachile and some of the best to the restaurant for aguachile and drinks later in the afternoon and"
