The Columbia is a 2 star property according to the desk clerk. It provides towels, but not hand towels or face clothes. The lift was broken. Our room was on the 4th floor and was in need of repair. The furniture had holes and the ceiling was water stained, cracked and has signs of mildew. The window would not close so there was a breeze. The breakfast was basic but adequate. Expedia lists this property as a 3-star hotel. It is not. We don't know what other rooms were like. The location is great however. Across the street from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens and a 5 minute walk to the underground.
The staff were friendly enough.
The hotel was cheap and very well situated.
But Sometimes you really do get what you paid for .
The hotel is very very dated . Iv read previous comments about it’s meant to be traditional etc . It’s really not ,it’s very very run down .
We had a 4x single bed room . The beds were uncomfortable , to be fare to them they were clean to the naked eye , until my son pointed out his bet sheet was coming off his duvet . The duvet looked like it had been found by the side of the road . It was covered in yellow stains.
Carpets were ripped .
Walls are paper thin .
The bar was hired out for a private function that had dance music blaring out until 2.30am . Not good .
Bathroom smelt like no man had managed to hit the target for a good couple of years.
I get it’s cheap and it’s a amazing location , BUT for me its a big NO for a repeat stay . You live and learn . Such a shame

The location of this property is great. Between 2 Tube stations and walking distance to 2 others.
Directly across from Hyde park and easy access to a number of Hop On - Hop Off bus stops.
The hotel is quiet and the staff are very friendly. This would not be a good hotel if you have mobility issues or are travelling with heavy luggage and the lifts are between floors so you would at least need to do 5 steps (as we had to) when you take the lift to the 2nd floor and you have a second floor room.
I do plan on staying here again the next time we are in London.
