Don’t bother
We arrived to a very pleasant lady. The room was a twin. On entering the room it was cold and the heating wasn’t on. I asked the lady at the bar and she flicked a switch and said it would be okay later. Later the room was cold. The lady said she would find a heater. After her hunting around she said there was a heater in the wardrobe. After reading other reviews I realise that this room is never heated and the heater has permanent residence in the wardrobe. It was late so we accepted the heater. I then found the bathroom door didn’t close and the floor was dirty and cobwebs in the corner ( also previously reported in reviews) I asked to change room the following morning which was met with a begrudging ‘yes later’ .. later we returned to find our belongings had been packed up and dumped in the stairwell. Not happy I asked the manager about this. He failed to show any hospitality or management skills and blamed the housekeeper. His attitude and inability to accept the faults resulted in a refund and us leaving. Kitchen cleaning supplies were also storages above the breakfast service hatch. Thank you to the lady who checked us in though, she was very nice and helpful with the heater issue. I hope the hotel addresses the issues reported and that keep coming up in the reviews.

Great location and staff
Great location and super friendly staff. Excellent breakfast- never been offered a choice of smoked or unsmoked bacon before. Bit noisy in the pub into the early hours but at least we were on the top floor so didn’t disturb too much, plus never known such a noisy toilet - electric I think. Overall would recommend

Comfy bed and hearty cooked to order breakfast
4-night stay in a Stables Court room, slightly separate to the main building. The room (Room 9), which was housed in a square courtyard filled with baskets of flowers, was clean and tidy with the comfiest of beds. Other places provide you with 1 weedy pillow each - not here - I had 6 pillows and cushions all to myself, for a blissful night's sleep. The White Horse is ideally situated for the pretty city centre, being 5 minutes walk away, but also 10 minutes drive in the other direction and you're into the lush Yorkshire countryside. Parking onsite is a bit of a squeeze, but the quiet streets surrounding the property were freely available and I had no qualms leaving my car there, overnight. Breakfast may appear to be limited compared to other properties, but who needs croissants and endless varieties of exotic fruits. There were boxed cereals, fresh orange juice, tea/coffee, toast and the heartiest of cooked-to-order English breakfasts. Again, the golden touch was there - Other properties give you one butter sachet, and you have to carefully divide that over 4 slices of toast. Not here - a bowl full of butter portions, so I could lather the toast to my heart's content. All in all, I had a cracking little stay, and will definitely use The White Horse again, if I'm in the area, and you should too.

We had a beautiful little room at the White Horse. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. A stag party in the pub made for lots of noise late into the night, but everything else was good.

White Horse Ripon.
Stayed in one of the courtyard rooms as part of a group of friends. Good base for touring, and decent breakfast in the mornings, served by a lovely lady. Room and bathroom were adequate in size, with the usual amenities such as kettle, tea/coffee/biscuits, shampoo and shower gel. I was slightly surprised to find a chair in the wardrobe. The bed had feather pillows and cushions, which is unusual, and although I'd prefer non-allergenic ones I decided to live with them. The air freshener in the room was very pungent but the staff were happy to remove it. The courtyard area is really pretty, with flower beds and bistro-style tables and chairs for guests. The bed looked quite old, but was still comfy to sleep on. Also, there was quite a bit of noise from the pub late on, which I thought was karaoke but may have just been very happy guests having a sing-song. The hotel has quite a small car park for the number of rooms, but on-street parking might be available in the residential streets nearby (not checked). In summary, a fair place to use as a base for a few days.

The Courtyard at the White Horse. Ripon
The courtyard room was especially suited to my disability. Stunning display of baskets and plants with table n chairs to have a chill out time. It was light and fresh and clean. A few cobwebs but hey! we’re in the countryside. Spiders need somewhere to live. The shower cubicle was a little tired. But fine. The hot water problem was due to a burst main in the Main Street. Unavoidable hiccup. Beds super comfy. Lots of refreshments. Staff very happy and pleasant and nothing too much trouble whatever we requested. Breakfast was served with a smile and extensive extras. Even For our pet. Thanks for a surprising little break.

The breakfast was good and room comfortable but shower was almost unusable. The owner was aware of issues with the room. It was in a pleasant stable block with real potential and it is to be completely refurbished over the summer.

The hotel emailed me one day before our arrival and stated they were canceling our reservation... i was already on the airplane flying to England... I was forced to find something else last minute while traveling... not fun... will be looking for a full refund from them asap!

The rooms are in a small courtyard at the rear of the pub. The room was comfortable enough but it would be a bit tight on space for two people. The shower tray needed to be cleared as it was partially blocked and the shower cabinet leaked.

Enjoyable stay
I stayed for three nights at The White Horse. My room was in the stables block. It would be lovely to sit outside in the summertime but not in February! It was quiet, warm, and comfortable. The bed was super comfy. Tea and coffee-making facilities were provided. The full English breakfast was freshly cooked by Dave and was delicious. The White Horse is the perfect location for exploring Ripon, the cathedral and museums being within 10 minutes walk. The hornblower at the obelisk at 9pm each evening is not to be missed! I definitely recommend The White Horse.

Had a very comfortable stay here in one of the converted stables. Great service from the staff on site, though the OYO people are impossible to get hold of (I broke down en route and was panicking as I was going to miss the 9pm final check in, tried the numbers provided and just got a “answers can be found on our website” message from OYO - not helpful when I actually need to speak to someone on site; the internet provided me a number for the bar, where the lady I spoke to assured me I could still be checked in as long as the bar is open, which it still was when I eventually arrived just before midnight, though this time may vary day to day). The place itself is lovely, as were the actual on site staff I spoke with. The room was comfortable and quiet, and free on site parking was very helpful. Only thing to be aware of if you’re sensitive to light whilst sleeping is to bring something to cover the glazed pane in the door, no problem at all for me, but I know my other half would have struggled if he’d been with me. Breakfast smelled amazing, though after my car troubles I got up too late to try it, but check it out if you can. Would definitely stay again. My thanks to the on site staff for your help.

What a wonderful place to stay
What a beautiful place to stay. I stayed in the courtyard and have never stayed in such a homely, quiet and relaxed place. Most comfortable bed with quality linen and duck feather pillows. The room is so cute and cosy and certainty didnt want to leave. My hosts were so kind and welcoming from an early check in to arranging a lift into Thirsk as there were no buses running. Breakfast was also superb and shall definitely return

As a regular visitor to Ripon on a weekly basis, usually in a campervan, this b n b is ideal. The room whilst small has everything that you need, is very clean and tidy. The private courtyard would be lovely to sit outside during the summer months. Full English breakfast included in price, which was delicious. Ideal location right in the city center within a short walk to the shops, many bars and attractions. Landlord welcoming and friendly. What more could you want..will stay again

A beacon on a foggy day!
A good stay! Even so the weather let us down! The rooms were clean, warm and quite in there own courtyard! Bar prices were reasonable! Breakfast was a delight tasty and nicely presented which set us up for the day! Don’t be deterred on arrival this is a good place to stay!
