Fantastic facilities, beautifully located and makes the best of stunning vista. Black cushions in room were stained which spoiled the perfection a little. Paying extra £12 per day for parking because not booked via English Lakes seems a bit harsh and petty. There is a sign in reception that advised this is the case, but by that time you are checking in and have no choice, breeds a little bitterness when feelings of comfort and contentment should be the goal!

Location:Excellent. Restaurant: Excellent. Breakfast:Excellent. Staff: Reception and dining, high standard, friendly. Spa: less so. Bedroom: Ground floor with window directly onto forecourt with less than 10metres to road. Always obliged to have curtains drawn despite (slightly obstructed) lake view, as passers by and car occupants had direct view in. Opposite reception room (used for wedding) - several hours of piped music one afternoon. Shower - partially blocked and dirty drain. No 'compendium' in room ('removed because of Covid'), not even a single easy-to-clean laminated sheet to start on the simple stuff...meal times, checkout, wifi. Slow wifi...not a big deal but important for booking spa. Had to physically go to spa reception to try to book, then had selected slot booked by someone on-line before reception staff could book it! Woken on two of the three mornings by a non stop barking dog in another room. Not reasonable that this is classified as a Spa Hotel as there seemed to be no preference for hotel guests for its use. Very discriminatory practice surrounding pool use. Not even informed of extra facilities (outdoor jacuzzi, infinity pool etc.) when we went to use pool. Made to feel very unwelcome.

The Resort is in enviable position on the lake. Beautiful Spa and pool extension with great views of the lake. The room we were given was at the back of the property which had a footpath from the car park so many people walking passed could look into our room if we had the curtains open. Unfortunately there were no net curtains or blinds to aid with privacy for the room.

Gulag of Northern UK - thankfully we could leave
The whole stay had an aire of hostility about it. Orwell would roll in his grave if he heard about this detention center. Strange things were unchangeable like the temperature of the pool changing room showers. I guess you either take a shower at your prescribed temperature given, or leave. Every door was locked and you needed permission to move around this hotel under lock and key. Covid excused some rules needed, although here it was taken to an extreme. There was a horrible system where a very nice pool was out of reach to hotel guests (Spa club only!?!), unless you paid through your nose for it. The pool facilities on offer were average at best. The bar staff could not make even the most basic cocktail. The restaurant food and dinner menu was awful (breakfast was OK). We left every night just to escape. Upon thinking this couldn’t get worse, we were kept awake from every angle as the rooms on each side started to fight and scream - turns out the walls are paper thin. Drunk people also screaming in the hallways didn’t help either. Thank goodness for earplugs. Upon checkout, I left the hotel thinking that it was a trick, and that the staff would tackle me and drag me back in there for another night at the Gulag hotel….. disastrous long weekend which cost a fortune.
