One checks in to a hotel like the Taj to enjoy a peaceful stay. Sadly this was not one of those stays. I had checked into the hotel in an executive suite on the palace side. The first day was OK, but the second day onwards there was MAJOR construction on the floor above us and it continued for more than 2.5 hours. Repeated complaints were to no avail. After an hour, someone called and said it will be over in 20 minutes or so. It didn't stop. This was 4pm in the afternoon. After a couple of hours they said that it is all done and we won't be bothered anymore.
It didn't end there. I am a patient person when it comes to hotels, airlines etc as I travel A LOT. I know things can go wrong. But this time the Taj staff really tried my patience.
I told them that I am happy to check out - but the guy at the reception threw the rule book at me without even asking me what the problem was in any sort of detail. He just said that the reservation can't be changed if I wanted to check out earlier the next morning. In fact he didn't even try to see what the problem was and how it can be resolved. This was 9pm in the night. I had another day on my reservation and I was hoping it was going to be peaceful.
The second day, it started again and went on and on from the morning. I had to tell them that I will just leave. They finally changed my room, but that too took a grand total of 1.5 hours.
Checkout has always been a struggle and as usual had to have the reception take off extra charges.
