"The staff at Cannery Row Inn was excellent; friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. However, for the price, I expected the property and rooms to be better maintained and furnished. I tend to notice maintenance details that the average guest may not immediately pick up on. We booked a partial ocean-view room, and the ocean view was definitely very partial. The balcony itself could have been a nice place to relax, but I noticed what appeared to be a significant amount of wood deterioration or possible termite damage. Because of these issues, I honestly didn’t feel very comfortable spending much time on the balcony with my family. Another issue was moisture inside the room. After walking around without shoes, I noticed the carpet felt surprisingly damp or wet. Given Monterey’s coastal environment, it seems like additional dehumidification or moisture control could make a noticeable difference. You can tell that efforts have been made to update some of the more immediately visible areas of the property, which I appreciate. However, addressing some of the underlying maintenance issues; moisture control, damaged exterior areas, and similar concerns would go a long way toward making the property feel worth the price. On the positive side, the location is very convenient for exploring Cannery Row, the nearby shops, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Being able to easily access everything in that area is definitely one of the property’s biggest advantages."

"This old hotel is very charming and in an excellent location. Everything is good, except a mucky smell in the room. Don't know if it's due to the previous guest had a pet or the age of the house. Housekeeping very quickly brought a can of air freshener. That helped a bit."

"This is my go to spot when staying in Monterey. Good price. Although, be aware that there is a bit of traffic noise, occasionally planes & thin walls in the room. But location is convenient, in the middle of everything which makes it nice to get to pg, marina, seaside, etc… My only complaint was my rooms showerhead the pressure was weak and barely any water would come out. But other than that I’ve never had an issue staying at el castell. Would recommend to others looking for a nice convenient affordable option. :)"
