"Our stay at this hotel was disappointing from the start. The room had an unpleasant odor, and the overall condition raised concerns about maintenance and cleanliness. The bathroom lacked an exhaust vent, and the mirror appeared to be a peeling sticker rather than a proper fixture. Several outlets and light switches were noticeably crooked, and the carpet was in very poor condition—we even found a nail clipper on the floor, which was unacceptable. Additionally, a drawer handle was broken and left hanging throughout our stay without being repaired. The elevator situation made things worse. With only two elevators serving a large hotel, they were consistently overcrowded and stopped on nearly every floor, making it frustrating to get around. We had originally booked a five-night stay, but due to a flight delay, we arrived late. Unfortunately, our reserved room had been given away. While the staff eventually provided another room, it appeared to be of significantly lower quality. Finally, our experience at the front desk was not welcoming. Ana, the attendant who assisted us, came across as unfriendly and lacked a customer-focused approach from the beginning. Overall, this was not the level of service or quality we expected."

"The front desk staff is not very friendly at this hotel. We had a leak in our sink the first night of check-in and they did not even offer to change our room. I had to request the change and they did not even apologize for the inconvenience. The hotel needs a make over, everything felt old and dirtly."

"The hotel St James is our go to when in Manhattan. Convenient, good value, wonderful staff. The only thing on this trip was that the mattress was quite uncomfortable. We will still stay here again though as we’ve never had this issue before. "

"Great property close to Times Square. Rooms are small with no fridge or microwave, but this is an old, historic, well-kept property that we would definitely return to. Get to know "Bobby the Doorman", he's been there for 47 years!! Breakfast at Friedman's was great."

"I’d give The New Yorker Hotel a 6/10 overall. The location and building itself are nice, but my experience ended on a frustrating note. I was charged a smoking fee even though I have never smoked in my life. Apparently their sensor was triggered by hairspray, which set it off and resulted in the charge. Now I’m stuck dealing with disputing a fee for something that simply didn’t happen. It’s honestly been a huge pain to deal with, and situations like this make the stay feel a lot less enjoyable. I understand hotels enforcing no-smoking policies, but charging such a large fee without properly verifying what actually triggered the sensor feels unfair. Because of that experience, I can’t rate my stay higher than a 6/10."
