Excellent hotel with large bedrooms and good location on waterfront of Knysna. Staff very helpful and gave good advise on sightseeing in the area. Excellent breakfast. The hotel does not serve dinner but a good selection of restaurants within a few minutes walk. There is a daily charge for parking in the hotels secure car park. If returning to Knysna in future would certainly stay at this hotel.
I wanted to spend the weekend in Mosselbay in a cozy and quiet hotel. The Protea Hotel is that kind of hotel. A beautiful view over the harbour, the rooms are very friendly and generous, the staff phantastic and the food very good.
Great for family vacation! Three bedrooms with very comfortable beds, great pillows and linen. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The unit was very neat and had everything you needed.will stay again for sure!
The 'luxury tent' accommodation is exactly that: the bed large and luxurious with four posts and full mosquito nets (not that we noticed any, and nor is it a malarial area), and a great bathroom with large oval bath and double outdoor shower (quite private), complete with touches like candles and room fragrance.
Of course, being separated from the bush by just canvas walls, you will hear the creatures around you making their natural calls, which is most noticeable nocturnally and the incredible dawn chorus - but if you're up for the 6am game drive that won't be a problem! The game drives themselves were wonderful.
The food is good - although the dinner buffet is let down by the side dishes in awful heated containers, whereas the cooked to order meat (including game such as impala, ostrich and crocodile) is great.
We had a great time at the Grand Cafe & Rooms in Plett. The staff was very friendly, the food was delicious (we had dinner and breakfast there) and we can also recommend getting a massage on site, they were great in quality and value for money! Very funky place throughout!

We stayed in a 1st floor room with balcony overlooking the gardens - beautifully peaceful!
The room was spacious and comfortable, with small kitchenette area. The only thing we thought was strange was the shower door that would not open fully as it knocked against the toilet bowl - strange! - and meant getting into/out of the shower was a bit of a squeeze, but a minor concern overall.
Just out of the town, about 5 mins drive [the Directions in the Expedia mobile app took us somewhere totally different which was frustrating, but not the fault of the hotel.
We didn't use the restaurant or the pool, so can't comment, but would be happy to recommend the hotel itself.

Lovely little place and we really enjoyed it. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was wonderful. Bed was pretty uncomfortable but other than that the room and bathroom was gorgeous. Would definitely go back.
