Hispaniola Beach Holidays

We recently stayed at Zel Punta Cana and had a pleasant overall experience. The rooms were spacious, clean, and nicely designed, making our stay comfortable and relaxing. The pools were definitely a highlight—beautiful, well-maintained, and a great place to unwind throughout the day. That said, the food was average and felt quite repetitive, with similar options offered daily. The service was also just okay—nothing particularly standout, but not bad either. One downside was the beach—it’s a bit far from the main areas, and there weren’t enough sunbeds available, which made it less enjoyable at times. Overall, it’s a nice resort with great accommodations and pool areas, but there’s room for improvement when it comes to dining variety, service, and beach convenience.

The staff was top notch. Always smiling always accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Beach is good, entertainment not bad, pools are well designed. Here are the issues: [a] Good English speaking staff required in reception - current staff unfocused & ill-mannered [b] Stagnated Water easement in mangroves - stinks [c] Bathroom drainage stinks when dry [d] Room drawers stuck and difficult to open [e] AC doesn't cool consistently [f] Only 9 doors & See-Sea restaurants are ok - the omelette station staff do not appear to know how much salt and pepper required for taste [g] Elevator floors numbering is ridiculous [h] Too much variety of food in flavors restaurant but not tasty [i] Guests should be allowed at least one restaurant option outside the main resort chain [j] No free floaties at the pools - very inconvenient [k] Phone handset was not working in the room, only works on speaker after much trial and error [l] Too many cats near guest walking areas [m] Not enough floaties for adults even in the shops

This was our 2nd trip back to Sanctuary Cap Cana, and was possibly better than the 1st. This property is stunning. The architecture in every inch of this place is beautiful. We upgraded to the castle this trip, which was perfect for what we wanted: quieter, more romantic, close to the spa and gym, an easier access to walk Juanillo beach. The castle pool was always quiet with gentle Caribbean music playing, and a beautiful breeze up high, so it didn’t feel too hot. Gorgeous views of the turquoise waters as well! Food was amazing in our opinion, we loved The Wok, Blue Marlin, and Italian. Steakhouse could be improved by offering some different appetizers, but was still great. The service and staff that work there are so pleasant, calm, and truly seem happy to be working there. The beach is smaller, but we walked to Juanillo beach daily, which was not an issue at all - just give your room # to the security at the gate near the castle. When we were here last time (~2 years ago), the Sanctuary Town was included in our all inclusive. It is now not included, which was a bit disappointing, as we remember it was very lively and fun to saunter around to grab a little dessert after our reservations. We purchased the pizza, but did not want to pay additionally for meals, when there are restaurants included in our stay. Overall though, If you want a calm, relaxed atmosphere with not too many activities/party music, it’s a perfect resort for couples who want to relax and reset.
