Kauai Shores Hotel

"Kauai Shores was amazing; the hotel, the location, the staff, the rooms…everything was perfect for us. It was very centrally located in Kapa’a, we were able to explore the entire island with only an hour drive any direction. Lots of amazing food options close by too. The rooms were so clean and nice, made for a great home base while exploring Kauai. Having Lava Lava Beach Club right there was perfect, the food was amazing and the views even better, right on the beach. The hotel has the cutest outdoor activities: bikes, lawn games, fires, and beach chairs made it wonderful. Angela at the front desk was so kind and helpful at check in and throughout our stay, I was so happy to see her everytime she was at the desk. Absolutely amazing stay and 10/10 will stay here again."

"our room was very clean. the two bedroom cottage was nice for our family of four. we stayed just one night before we flew back to the mainland after a two week vacation on the north shore. I wish we had dedicated a few more days to stay in the Kauai Palms and explore the south shore and Waimea Canyon, etc. the kitchen supported our final night "happy hour" and a quick breakfast in the morning. we walked from our cottage to the near by Rob's good time for a fun and good dinner. In the morning we walked over to a coffee place. I liked the area. It was quiet on the weekend although I imagine there is activity on weekdays with the nearby preschool and businesses. I recommend the Kauai Palms. It has character."

Fern Grotto Inn

"Fern Grotto Inn (Coco D) was beautiful & comfortably furnished. Nice floral surprises everywhere with some yummy snacks, water & beer in the frig. Plenty of kitchen wares. There was Illy Coffee too. Our queen bed was very comfortable, although a bit high (I'm 5'6"). We were on the second floor (no elevator), which made for some nice views of the river from the kitchen/dining area. The grounds are absolutely stunning with beautiful plants & flowers everywhere. The Inn is located between Kapa'a & Lihue. Lots of things to do, restaurants & shopping nearby. You can go kayaking from the property to Fern Grotto, visit Smith's Garden & Luau (pricey, but includes a great meal & show). Need to book in advance. It's a very short drive from the Inn. Definitely do the doors off 1 hour helicopter tour of Kauai with Ali'i (expensive, but SO worth it!) from Lihue. Also, go to Allerton Garden & Estate (south) & Kilauea NWR (north). Too many things to do & so little time! We were there 4 nights. There is some road noise, even with the windows closed & there are roosters that like to crow at various times of the day or night, but there is Alexa that you can play music or white noise to offset any sounds. Paul was out of state, but we got to meet Rick. Great guy! Thanks Rick! Definitely a must stay!"

"We appreciated the staff during our stay—they were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the property itself was not what we expected based on the photos. The hotel appears quite dated and in need of significant maintenance. There was a strong sewage odor near the pool area during our stay, which made spending time there unpleasant. The hotel was also undergoing extensive fumigation, and many hallway wall panels and trim pieces had been removed, giving parts of the property a partially renovated or unfinished appearance. At times, we were surprised the hotel was operating while this level of work was taking place. Our room was comfortable and generally clean, but it also showed signs of wear consistent with the rest of the property. Overall, the staff were the highlight of our stay, but the condition of the hotel did not match our expectations or the photos we viewed before booking."
