Fatehgarh is an heritage-like hotel with a superb view. Even though it is a fairly new construction (4 years or so), some parts of its architecture have been imported from an heritage building located 100+ kms away.
The setting is grand, the hotel sitting on top of a hill with stunning views of the Udaipur countryside, featuring also a stunning view on Lake Pichola and on the Udaipur palaces at night.
The rooms are great and spacious, featuring many windows and great bathrooms. Beds are comfy, we had one of our best overnights there during our tour of Rajasthan.
The restaurant food is good if not varied.
Despite friendliness and goodwill of the hotel staff, the service is invariably slow and disorganized. You're getting (too much) attention when it is not expected and not enough when needed. Maybe too many people get involved without a set plan, maybe they've not been trained enough - at any rate it does not feel professional and hardly matches the standing of the place.
Putting back corks on wine bottles, handing menus to men prior to women, strolling with customers while they go from point A to point B to inquired about plans... quite unexpected!
But overall our stay was a great experience and I'd recommend the hotel to anyone who can bear being out of the city. I'm sure management will have staff up to the level a some stage.
