First of all, I have to mention the staff at the hotel, they were great. Nothing was too much trouble for Vivien at the front desk, Erica the domestic kept the place immaculate and Jay the head barman provided great service and conversation. All of the room maids had a smile for us, and they were only too pleased to replenish tea and coffee or change the towels.
The hotel lift was broke for the first four days of our stay, but after a while it was nothing to climb the stairs to the third floor, after walking around San Francisco. We only used the lift to bring our suitcase down on the day of departure.
It was a shock to have a view of a brick wall, six foot away from the bedroom window, but thats the price of being five minutes away from Union Square. The building is landlocked by other buildings on either side.
The communal area on the ground floor was comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee available in the morning. There were also two microwaves availability for guests.
The hotel bar was very reasonable, about $8 dollars for a large wine or pint of English IPA. They also had domestic beer. Take it from me, if you want a good pint, that wont break the bank, imbibe at the hotel. I had a half litre of Peroni and my wife a small glass of red in Sam's Cable Bar bar on Powell and Geary, it cost $35.
If we were to return to San Francisco, we would definitely return to the King George Hotel, as long as they manage to keep their fantastic staff.
