Right in the heart of Brisbane's central business district, you will find 16 hectares of luscious landscaped gardens home to subtropical flowers, indigenous wildlife and a tranquil lake.
Formerly the city's main train yard, this public park has been transformed into an inner-city paradise with 5 distinguished precincts and facilities such as an amphitheatre, children's playground and even its own train.
Colin Campbell Place is home to some magnificent flower arrangements and water features, while twisting pathways and hidden herbs make this a must see for horticultural aficionados. Wander through the subtropical plant life and colourful flowers in the Forest and Fern Gully where, if you're lucky, you may spot an eastern water dragon or a skink. Bring the kids to the Upper Parkland where they can amuse themselves in the playground. Alternatively, hop aboard the Parkland Explorer, a train without tracks that provides a narrated audio tour and has three hop-on, hop-off locations. Available Friday, Saturday & Sunday only.
If you check out the parkland's website you can download one of the self-guided walks. Alternatively, if you would like to partake in some of the free guided tours, you can book ahead. Children are well catered for at Roma Street Parkland with specific walkways dedicated to parents with very young children as well as kid’s activities like "I Spy" and an artwork hunt available for download from the website. Also, if you’re feeling peckish feel free to avail of the many picnic tables and barbecue facilities over at Celebration Lawn, or you could pop into the Frangipani Court if you wish.
Roma Street Parkland is situated behind Roma Street Station. Make your way to the park on foot, by bike or by car, however parking is limited and pricey. Admission is free, restrooms are available and the park stays open all night.
