We stayed here for 5 days and it was the perfect! When we arrived by Uber from the airport, Nuno Pacheco came up to our car and greeted us as we were getting out and took our bags. The rest of the staff have all been amazing from check in, to housekeeping, the restaurant and concierge services. Even though the name says “historical hotel” it was finished in 2017 so is new and modern. The outside cannot be altered, and it’s called historical hotel because when they were building it, the came across the ruins of the original walls defending Lisbon that had been buried in the great 1755 earthquake. You can actually see the wall in the basement of the hotel which they turned into a lounge and we learned about this on our tour with Victoria.
The hotel offers 2 free tours a day, led by one of the concierge staff. The tours are of a different part of the city and last about 2 hours. We went on a tour led by Victoria and it was a great introduction to Lisbon and the Portuguese people. She kept insisting that she was not an official tour guide but she was better than most tour guides we’ve had. Her stories were entertaining and educational. Highly recommend taking one of the tours. You just show up 10 minutes prior to the tour and sign up.
The location is also ideal - walking distance to everything. Time Out Market, Commercial Square, shopping on Rua Garrett, walking up to Castelo de Sao Jorge in the Alfama district.
