My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room was very spacious. The staff sets up traditional futon mattresses while you're at dinner, and these are very comfortable. The en-suite onsen is truly luxurious as promised, although be sure to look up steps for how to shower/prepare if you have not done one before! They also open up the main onsens for private use between 10pm and 6am (during the day they're gender-restricted). The food was...

We stayed in the huge 7 bed room, with the hammock and tent. Strange, but fantastic room. Teenage boys enjoyed the popcorn maker and home theatre. Laundry area was easy to use and supplied free detergent. Breakfast was a little limited, but adequate and ok for vegetarians if you request no meat at check in. Fridge in room was stocked up with soft drinks and beers for free. Staff were always helpful and friendly. Would stay here again.

An excellent Ryokan with lovely staff. We felt very well cared for. Thank you very much for your hospitality. The breakfast is spectacular. As advised by the owners, this is a very very traditional old house (it’s the whole point of the experience), so one should not expect hotel things like black out blinds, or soundproofing.

Probably one of the best stays of my life. The stag was absolutely amazing, from start to finish. The attention to detail is impeccable, whilst not overwhelming. The room was wonderful, and the dinner and breakfast experiences magic. Overall, for the price of what would be a normal room in Tokyo, you get an outstanding experience. Lots of surprises, such as the massage chairs and public baths (all rooms seem to have a private onsen, ours certainly did. Our room was 4 different rooms (dinning...

The hotel is well located 3 min from the train station. 1 min from the bus station and 10 min walk from the old town the main attraction. The room was spacy (suite style) and had a washing/dryer machine in the kitchen. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom OK Priced well and one last piece of advice: If you are planning to go to Shirakawa-go do NOT book accommodation there. Leave Takayama early enough (bus ticket-buy a day or two in advance) and either come back to Takayama the same night or...

Really positive experience. Staff were excellent. Never did find the free coffee that was advertised (and would have made things truly perfect) but overall this was a delightful, peaceful stay.

Very friendly staff in this Ryokan. Japanese and Western breakfasts were excellent quality. Comfortable futon and bedding. Used the private bath with additional cost, though not mineral spa water. Still an enjoyable experience.

Nice place to stay. Close to train station, bus station, and historic old town. Nice cafe downstairs. And brilliant shower and comfortable beds!

Spotless room, very warm host

Lovely setting, large communal lounge with wood burning stove. No en suite facilities, toilets on galleries off the stairs leading up to bedrooms. Washbasins and bathrooms also on galleries above lounge. Bathrooms are Japanese style with dressing rooms and shower/bathroom next door. Baths are deep double style with jacuzzi type jet circulating water - a great experience after a long day walking around Takayama! Staff were extremely attentive in every respect. Shuttle service on demand to...

Great location. Gr

What a treasure this is. Lovely rooms with comfortable futon mattresses on raised tatami mats. Clean bathrooms with smaller shower cubical. Traditional Japanese bento breakfasts were very tasty and rice also available.

We were made to feel exceptionally welcomed on arrival by the staff. The place was comfortable and clean, the staff extremely attentive, and we were provided with every amenity required. We felt that the offer of the Yukatas and sleeping garments were really considerate. We enjoyed the carefully curated dishes for dinner. Really exceptional service, this is how luxury travel used to feel and sadly has been lost in many places in more modern times. Highly rated. Takayama was the highlight of our...
