Home to the Museum of Natural Science and Houston Zoo, this large city-centre park is perfect for exercising, relaxing or enjoying a picnic.

Situated just south of Houston’s Central Business District, Hermann Park welcomes over 6 million visitors each year, with both locals and tourists alike making use of its various facilities. Covering an impressive 180 hectares, the park has walking, jogging and cycle trails, playgrounds, a lake, gardens, and even a golf course and outdoor theatre. The park is also home to the Museum of Natural Science and Houston Zoo.

Enter the park through the main gates (at Montrose Boulevard and Main Street) and head straight to the serene Japanese Garden—the perfect place to relax and reflect. Stroll along the walkways lines with cherry trees, enjoy a moment of tranquillity by the pond, or try some traditional Japanese tea in the charming teahouse.

The Houston Garden Centre at the northern end of the park is home to a dazzling array of plants and flowers, including a rose garden that has blooms all year round.

Golf fans won’t want to miss out on a round on the impressive 18-hole course which caters to players of all skills and is open every day. Try your hand at fishing on McGovern Lake, or rent a pedal boat to navigate the waters.

Hermann Park is ideal for families with children, and has a large wheelchair-accessible playground featuring a fun water feature. Don’t miss a ride on the miniature train which has been transporting visitors around the park for over 50 years and recently underwent extensive renovation and improvement.

There are over a dozen outdoor grills dotted throughout the park, so get there early with your supplies to enjoy a picnic with a difference in the great Houston weather. As evening falls head to the Miller Outdoor Theatre to watch some free live music, a film or a play. Visit the Hermann Park website for more details about what’s on during your visit.

It takes about 10 minutes to get to Hermann Park by car from central Houston. Parking is available nearby.
