Benfica Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Benfica
Benfica is a pleasant village to the north of Lisbon. Although this is a highly urbanized residential area, it has some beautiful green areas and parks, and is home to one of the largest Portuguese football clubs: Sport Lisboa Benfica.

Benfica is well known for having great public transport connections (including metro) and excellent facilities such as medical clinics and urban shopping areas.

Stadium Sport Lisboa e Benfica

Visit the largest and most modern sports arena in Portugal. The Stadium Sport Lisboa e Benfica, also known as the ‘Stadium of Light’, was the venue for the final stage of the Champions League in 2014. There are guided tours that take you close to the pitch and into the Press Conference Room, and you can also take a picture with the mascot of the club, the Victory Eagle.

Museum Benfica Cosme Damião

In the modern Museum Benfica Cosme Damião, you can relive the best moments of Eusébio, the greatest sporting legend of Benfica football club while simultaneously exploring the history of Lisbon. Great for sport and history fans alike.

Nossa Senhora do Amparo Church/Benfica Church

The Church of Benfica was built in 1809 upon the remains of two previous churches. Built in the Italian Baroque style, the church stands in the middle of a large churchyard and can be accessed from both sides by stone staircases.

Quinta da Granja

Quinta da Granja park is located halfway between Columbus Shopping Centre and Benfica Road and has the air of a nature retreat. It has a small café with an outdoor area, plus walking and biking paths. The historic main farm building still exists too.

Mata de Benfica or Parque Silva Porto

`

This beautiful park is home to an incredible variety of trees, such as cedars, eucalyptus, cypress and oaks. But this isn’t all that’s distinct about this beautiful green space. The park also has a singular Art Nouveau Kiosk, built in 1916, which displays different panels on themes such as ‘love’, ‘the hunt’ and ‘the forest’. Inside this Park you’ll also find the Bx-Benfica Extreme Adventure Park, where you can not only get the adrenaline pumping, but also learn about the environment too.

Colombo Shopping Centre

The Colombo Shopping Centre, located next to the stadium of Benfica, is one of the largest shopping centres of Portugal. It has around 340 stores, over 60 restaurants, 9 cinemas, an outdoor garden, a health & fitness club and a great customer support service. The Centro Colombo is also home to the only IMAX movie theatre in Portugal.

Benfica Market

This is one of the largest markets in the entire city of Lisbon. Here, you will find a wide variety of stalls of fruits and vegetables, fresh fish, meat, deli meats, baked goods, grocery items and even flowers. The freshness and diversity of produce, as well as the quality and affordable prices, make this a wonderful place to shop.

Benfica Crafts Fair (FAB)

The craft fair takes place on the first Saturday of each month on Benfica Road. It displays the artisanal work of about 40 craftsmen with a wide variety of patchwork, crochet and ceramic items on sale.
