Staff was friendly and helpful. Location couldn't be beat- around the corner from museums. Neighbourhood is quiet, safe and beautiful.
The carpeting in the room needs replacing and the room cleaning policy should be clarified-daily, every other day?
That said, i would return in a nanosecond.
Things that we liked about the hotel:
Good location, really close to the museums i.e. Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Moco Museums are all within walking distance. Also really close to the local Albert Heijn supermarket (which we went to every day) and the local tram stops, we mainly used Museumplein tram stop and it was really convenient for flitting around town.
We were always greeted in a friendly manner by the hotel staff when leaving and arriving back to the hotel, even if we'd not personally interacted with them before.
Housekeeping was OK but not great. We liked a lie-in beyond 9am some mornings and thankfully the housekeeping did not enter the room at all when the do not disturb sign was out there. When we removed the sign they would come and replace towels and make the bed (not sure they were fresh sheets), but everything else was a bit hit and miss as to whether the counters would be wiped over and toilet cleaned etc. The refreshments (coffee, tea etc) were not restocked but we simply helped ourselves from the stores down by reception and were always freely given if asked.
The room we had was on the basement level and it was cosy, plenty of room, although there was no sink in the bathroom (it was just outside in the bedroom) it actually worked great. Some odd smells, and some cobwebs but overall it was a decent stay for a decent price and in a great location.
I would recommend upgrading we got a standard room and it was literally in the basement like -1 floor so it was a bit peculiar but it was one of those you got a deal situations. Service is fantastic and the little honesty bar is a good idea. As for the rooms themselves they’re decent and quite large for 2 people. The beds are a little odd if you get the king that has the divider kinda thing between the beds. It’s kind of like two twin beds next to each other. Storage is very spacious. The bathroom can be a little off for some as the sink area is located in the main room. The bathroom area is ok but very small and since ours was in the basement it has a strange smell. However, the area is fantastic. Walking distance to all of the museums and the park etc. quiet neighborhood as well. I did enjoy the Molton Brown bath products and the slippers etc in the drawers. However, I do wish they offer a small hand soap or bad soap for the sink area Because there was none (bathroom hand soap).
