Grows on you...

Posted 13-Jul-2014
Pros: Felt safe and clean, had nice staff, had personality
Cons: Didn't think the restaurant breakfast of tomatoes, poached eggs and merguez was nearly as spectacular as it sounded on the menu. Explore outside.
Location: See 'Write about your experience.'
I was there for 6 hot and humid New York days, at first a bit outraged and ended up really liking it. It's clean and nicely appointed and has character. This is far from a pit--just know about the showers: 4 total (showers, stalls, sinks) and unisex for a floor of about 24 'cabins.' The 'cabin' had a roaring air conditioner but a quiet fan and since I'm not used to air conditioners anyway was quite happy. The location is wonderful, just a couple of blocks from the HighLine park and across a busy street from the Hudson River and Hudson River Parkway with hotel bikes you can borrow and take all the way along to ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, 9/11 memorial and Battery Park.

Convenient and Immaculate

Posted 13-Jul-2014
Clean, cozy bunk room, immaculate shared bathroom, amazing price. Would recommend. The lobby and front entrance were filled with partiers, some of whom were stupid drunk, but what do you want for midnight on a Friday?

Great budget hotel with lots of character

Posted 12-Jul-2014
Pros: Great customer service. Lots of character and history.
Location: Five minute walk from the subway. Many shops and restaurants nearby. The High Line is also only a couple of blocks away.
I stayed at The Jane for three nights, mid-week in a Standard Cabin. The room was very small, however I was aware of this before I arrived and I was pretty much only ever in my hotel room to sleep so I didn't mind. The room is very clean, comes with complimentary towels, dressing gown, slippers and water, plus an iPod dock/radio and a TV with a large selection of cable channels. There is also A/C. The shared bathroom/shower facilities were very clean. The hotel has lots of character and all the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The cafe is reasonably priced and the food was fantastic. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from a subway station, 14th Street – Eighth Avenue, served by the A, C, E, and L trains.

Fun location, great accommodations!

Posted 09-Jul-2014
Pros: They were friendly and didn't have to wait to check in or out. Location. Clean, older place, lots of character.
Cons: Elevator can be slow.
Location: Seriously a great location. The High Line is close by and a must.
Great price and plenty of space for me. The room had everything I needed, the bathrooms were clean. Stayed one night and would definitely consider it again. I borrowed one of their bikes which was fun and hassle free. And I think they are working on the rooftop so that would be nice when its done.

Captain's suite/single room

Posted 02-Jul-2014
It's a shame this hotel has a low rating...I love the jane! I have stayed here 4 times now. The first 3 times in a single bed cabin, and this time in a captain's suite. I personally love the single cabin when I travel alone. Yes, it's tiny, but it's all you need as a solo traveller. The shared bathrooms are clean and I have never had to wait for a shower. Good luck finding such a good hotel in an awesome neighborhood for that price. Private room, air con, fan, tv, comfy bed. It ticks all the boxes for me. And this time, staying in the captain's suite with my husband was such a treat!!! What a beautiful room, incredibly comfortable bed, great view over the river. Loved it. And the staff are always helpful. Plus free bike rental! Yay for The Jane!

Great Location. Terrific Staff. Not For Couples..

Posted 21-Jun-2014
Pros: Location. Vibe. Staff. History.
Location: West Village. Meat Packing District. Close to main subways.
You can easily spend $250 - $400 per night for a hotel in NYC. If you are traveling solo, and don't mind the shared bathroom down the hall, The Jane is perfect. The hotel, the bar, the rooftop lounge, the restaurant, the staff and the vibe is great. The rooms....are... well, very small. And that's ok with me. You basically get a small single bed, that's sort of like being on an old time steamship. The bathrooms down the hall are very clean and they give you a really nice robe and great towels. It would be impossible for two people to sleep together - in which case they do have larger rooms for 2 in the $250 price range. The location is great - and the West Village is wonderful. The staff is very friendly. I would stay here again -assuming I am traveling solo.

The hotel staff were really helpful and friendly.

Posted 16-Jun-2014
Pros: Location and staff
Location: By the waterfront so good location for a nice walk. The surrounding area has lots of nice restaurants and bars and unique shops.
The room is very small (as advertised) but the bed is comfortable and after getting used to the space it is comfortable too. The location is really convenient and the surrounding area is lovely. The staff were really welcoming and friendly, and even helped print off boarding pass etc. This is a good hotel if you care more about location then space.
