"Sir Albert is a great hotel in a great location"
I love the Sir Albert. Very chic decor, if somewhat masculine, with leather, cowhide, black and chrome. Spa-like rain shower and hand-held wand. The bed is beyond comfortable with up scale linens and many pillows and the wireless internet is fast and free. I had a great canal view. If you turn left out of the hotel and walk about 6 blocks you come to the major museum and concert hall district. The #197 bus (5 euro) to the airport stops by the concert hall. If you walk to the right out of the hotel there are many shops and cafes as well as the oldest and largest flea market in Amsterdam. The #16 and #24 tram (2.80 euro) to the right will take you to Dam Square. There is a "red-light" establishment two doors down, on the canal side, which is either an interesting attraction (no photography) or easily ignored. In any event it is not intrusive. Do watch out for bikes. They have unlimited right of way on bike lanes and take full advantage of it. Take the backstage tour and catch a concert at the Concertgebouw.

"Good stay"
The room was small but very nice, quiet and comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The hotel was nicely located for us. We found some nice places to eat close by and it was a plesent distance into the centre. Breakfast was very nice. We would stay here again.

"Cold Showers"
The receptionist was amongst the slowest I have ever had - hopeless - moving in a dream. Noisy in that the glazing did not stop the street noise. Shower did not drain properly and swung between luke warm and cold, no matter what you did it NEVER got hot.

"Clean hotel, small rooms"
Stayed here as all other A'dam options were booked. Hotel has a nice location opposite park. Nice to be out of the touristy area. Room (a single) was, however, EXTREMELY small, but VERY clean. Bed had nice down comforter. Shower was a pain as it had a sleep slope for people to sit in the small tub. I actually think it would give elderly or people with poor balance extreme trouble showering.

"Great stay"
We had a great stay, we had a garden room. The room was clean and small but enough space for us. breakfast was basic but plenty of it. Marcel the manager was friendly and very helpful. Some building work was taking place but Mario the builder was also very helpful. All the staff were friendly and spoke English. We would certainly go back to this hotel. Hazel & Pat

Pocket Guide: Amsterdam De Pijp Hotels

The Pipe' (its derivation is a mystery) is a quiet residential suburb with a cosmopolitan bohemian air thanks to a large number of immigrants and the recent gentrification of the area by an arty crowd. Running through the centre, the daily Albert Cuyp Market is the largest in the city. De Pijp is also renowned for its restaurants which serve some of Amsterdam's best ethnic (Syrian, Moroccan, Surinamese, Turkish etc) food.
