"Great customer service"
FRANCINE, at the check in counter, changed me to her favorite room because I was dissatisfied with the original corridor view. She changed it without any hassle... The housekeeping staff was also very friendly. They all greeted me with a smile and a Hello.

"Modern hotel, Excellent satff"
The design of this hotel was wonderful. The staff was very knowledgeable about the city. The hotel was quiet which was surprising because of the centered location. I came for Taste of Chicago, shopping , and sightseeing. I could walk to all my destinations from the hotel... Staying her next time For sure!!

"Good location for entertaining Chicago trip"
The Essex Inn is conveniently located for easy access to a lot of the activities in downtown Chicago. We were able to check into the hotel, park our car at the garage there, and then dive into the atmosphere of downtown Chicago. Very easy to walk to a CTA "L" or subway line to get access to all of the city. Close walk to the Shed Aquarium and the Field Museum. The staff at the Essex Inn were very helpful in making our experience a good one. The pool was great for the kids at the end of a long day. A plus was they had a life guard there to make sure that it was a very safe environment. The pool was also was very well heated! No "wholly cow" that is cold screeches elicited when entering it. The rooms aren't spacious, but easily accommodated our family of 4 (two adults and a 5 and 7 year old). I would definitely stay here again in the future.

"Centrally located!!"
The hotel is centrally located and easy walking distance to all the attractions along the lake. The rooms are smaller than other "chain" hotels but at the same time, the price makes up the difference. The beds were SUPER comfortable and it was very nice to have chilled, filtered water available on your way in and out of the hotel (along with empty bottles to fill). Overall we had a great experience and didn't even notice too much noise despite being in downtown Chicago.

"View & Service with Professionalism"
This is our second stay at the River Hotel and everything was perfect! Our first stay was just me and my Wife. We enjoyed our last stay so much we brought our two Boys (ages 9 & 12). Our first stay we took one of the smaller rooms. It was perfect for a romantic get away. This year we got the 2 sleeping room suite, with kitchenette. There really isn't two separate rooms, but it did have the two sleeping areas separated by the kitchenette and a 3/5 privacy wall. The kitchenette had everything you'd need to scramble eggs on a two grill electric range (very modern) or cook/bake in the very large nice convection/microwave oven. Perfect for a family or businessman looking for an alternative to eating out every meal. The three 25 inch TVs are rather small, but provide all the hookups - be sure to bring your own HDMI cable, unless you only use RCA or VGA - then everything you need is there. I always have an HDMI with me and the free WIFi worked well with Netflix, iPhone 5s, & HDMI adapter. Pretty much 720 HD the whole weekend. The free filtered water and awesome workout facilities were like having your own private gym. Oh and did I mention it backs up to Michigan avenue and overlooks the river? Corner Bakery is just next door and the restaurant downstairs has an excellent Solomon salad. Shopping is only a few blocks north for the nice shops or head south-west on Wacker Drive and south on State Street for the discount shops. Great location, great service and exceptional staff.

Pocket Guide: Chicago The Loop - Downtown 3 stars Hotels

Locals call downtown Chicago “The Loop.” The famous Marshall Field’s, now a Macy’s, is on State Street. Cultural attractions include the Art Institute of Chicago, the Lyric Opera, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Grant and Millennium parks are along the lakefront. Visitors can enjoy complimentary concerts (summer only) and the annual, two-week “Taste of Chicago” in June at Grant Park.
