Timeshare heavy and if you aren’t an owner, they will do anything to get you to attend a presentation. Resort’s staff was extremely helpful, friendly and willing to go above and beyond. They even came to decorate our room for our daughter’s birthday, they made her a beautiful balloon arch, brought her a yummy slice of cake and for us a bottle of champagne. Buffet was not bad, but not great. The other two on site restaurants were good. The pools were clean and the perfect temperature. The grounds were tropical, clean and well maintained. The beach unfortunately does not look like the pictures due to erosion, but still beautiful and well maintained. Overall it was a wonderful stay.

Property was only at 30% occupied according to them, I paid for a “LUXURY 2 BEDS ROOM” but got a king size bed and a horrible bed that comes out of the wall.

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for the entire month of August, and it was, hands down, one of the best travel decisions we've ever made. August is considered low season, but that worked in our favor — the resort was peaceful, beautifully lush, and we got to truly immerse ourselves in everything it has to offer. We stayed in the penthouse room, which offered breathtaking views of the beach, infinity pool, and one of their restaurants. Waking up each morning to the sound of the ocean and tropical birds was nothing short of magic. But what made our stay truly unforgettable was the people. The staff at Mahekal are some of the most genuine, kind-hearted, and attentive individuals we’ve ever encountered. My husband, our 9-year-old daughter, and I felt so taken care of — like we were truly welcomed and looked after every day. A special thank you to Abraham, one of Mahekal’s supervisors, who made such a lasting impression on us. He checked in with us daily and went above and beyond for our daughter — surprising her with treats and organizing a beautiful early birthday celebration that she'll never forget. His warmth and thoughtfulness were a highlight of our stay. We also want to recognize the incredible restaurant and pool staff — truly some of the best humans we've met! The resort is very kid-friendly — our kids loved the Aquazone and the foam party at the pool, and the main areas were nice. Housekeeping did a great job keeping the rooms tidy, but the buildings with the rooms still felt dated, like the décor hadn’t been touched in 15 years. The food was the biggest letdown: salty, repetitive, and not very fresh, and a few of us even felt unwell. Room service was also painfully slow — over an hour wait for things that usually come out right away. On top of that, there was little AC or fans in many spots, so it was uncomfortably hot in the restaurants. Overall, amazing for kids, but the food, dated rooms, and slow service really took away from the experience.
