The Mission Church of St Francis. The established Anglican church had a problem in late 19th century Cornwall, their churches were centred on pre-industrial parishes and were often remote from the new industrial settlements. The answer was to set up mission churches like this one which was built in 1884.

Everything was excellent! All of the staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and attentive. We used the bar, restaurant, reception, and spa. Lovely harbour view room. Modem, very clean with comfortable beds. When we first checked in, they're was a sewage smell inthe bathroom but this cleared! Staff were very friendly and thought the breakfast on both days was excellent.

St. Columb Major itself is just a small village, not set up for tourists. Although the Retallack Resort is classed as St. Columb Major it is about 3 miles out and so my review is for the resort rather than St. Columb itself.

The Road to Newquay. The strange shaped tree growing over the road seems to have been bent over by the prevailing southwest wind and cropped underneath by lorries. It looks something like a breaking wave, quite appropriate really as the white dots on the horizon are buildings in Newquay.
