"I wish that I would've had more time here, we had a cute little studio and it was so nice! hot tub and pool right on the lake -- perfect for chillin in the AM or PM"

"The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe is a very impressive property sitting on top of a mountainside in the Northstar resort area about halfway between Truckee and Kings Beach. Service was world class, from the second we arrived until we left all the staff we interacted were very accommodating and were good at anticipating our needs.
We visited in the slower season between Summer and the Winter Ski season, so the hotel was very quiet. The pool was closed for renovation at this time which was a bit disappointing ( I was really looking forward to an after hike soak in the hot tub), but understandable as the window for construction in the high sierras is very short.
We ate at both Manzanita the full service restaurant, and the LRL which is the lobby lounge area. Food and service were excellent. I really enjoyed sitting by the large lobby fireplaces after a long day out in the mountains.
The quality of the rooms was very nice and housekeeping was excellent. Turndown service was included and they do a very nice job of setting up the room for the evening. Again the personalized level of service was preset here; they left sparkling water and my wife's glasses on her side and left still water and distilled water on my side of the bed for my cpap machine.
We are not super big into winter sports but I imagine with the proximity to the mountains and the available amenities this would make a great ski trip destination in the winter as well.

"Check in and checkout was very easy and quick. 2 different staff members and both were very nice. View across the street to the lake.was amazing. Bed was comfortable. Cabin was so cozy and cute. Definitely recommended! "
"The location was awesome, the reception gentleman was super helpful an d the room was really clean. Don't let the rundown, but charming, outside fool you. A great place to stay."
VIP Ski-In Ski-Out Northstar Ski Trails by Sierra Getaways
10/10 Excellent
"Very convenient location near the bottom of the slope close to the Northstar Gondola. We loved the property and little touches, like the snack basket, tea/coffee choices, etc. The view was fun, watching skiers come down the mountain. The best is ski in/out, no packing the car and driving necessary, at the end of a big ski day, it's so nice to be able to just relax."
"Northstar units are generally old. This unit was also old, but has updated appliances, which was nice. The longer dining table and two full couches were also nice to have. They do not have benches for the dining table as shown in their pictures. They only have four chairs. The unit was in the perfect location. So physically, the unit was great. However, the management was not great. The person who gave us the keys was very sarcastic. His office was a total mess. I thought I went to the wrong place. I had to call him later to ask for the ski locker key since it wasn’t in the unit as usual for Northstar condos. He didn’t know about it, and never got back to me. We had to store our skis and snowboards in our car. Luckily, our parking space was right outside our unit so it wasn’t too inconvenient. In addition, these units usually come with shampoo/soap. However, he sent the Cleaning crew back and gave us expired shampoo and soap which we did not use. The hand soap and dishwashing soap were also pretty gross. We ended up buying our own shampoo/soap/hand soap/dish, dishwashing soap. So if we removed the management part of our stay, and if we had the ski locker key as expected, and if we had planned to bring our own soaps, I would have given this place a five star."
When you picture California, sunny beaches, surf, and the sea are sure to come to mind first. Don't forget that snow is falling down on the mountain, making Northstar Ski Resort one of the top destinations when ski season arrives.
