"My room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast is excellent. The staff are efficient and attentive. The Hotel is quiet because it is on a small street but it is in a great position, minutes walk from two metro stations and Flamengo beach. It is only two metro stops to Copacabana beach and the central city.The local area is vibrant with many eateries, and I felt safe at all times.I think Mengo Palace is great value and I was very pleased with my choice for staying in Rio."

"Lovely stay in Botafogo. Larissa at the front desk was very helpful, as was all of the staff. We were lucky to have a corner room with a gorgeous view of the bay and Sugar Loaf. You can see Christ from the rooftop, which has a bar and food and a pool. Easy to Uber anywhere from here. There are Nespresso machines in the rooms with a charge per pod. We would stay here again!"

"The stay was okay overall, but there were a few issues. The rooftop pool looked much better in the photos than in reality. Check-in was also poorly handled — we arrived at 12pm and were told after 2pm multiple times that the room would be ready in “5 minutes”, but we didn’t receive our room card until 3:30pm. They offered a slightly late check-out to make up for it, but since our flight was at 6am it wasn’t useful. The bathroom also felt quite outdated, and the shower frequently flooded the bathroom floor, which was inconvenient. Overall, not a terrible stay, but definitely room for improvement."

"The location was convenient, but the street wasn’t the nicest and was about a block from a night club/strip club. The rooms were quite outdated. The bathrooms smelled a bit and while mostly clean, were not up to par for a 3-4 star hotel. The one nice part was the rooftop view. Check in and check out took longer than most of the hotels we stayed at in Rio/Brazil. "

"I really enjoyed my stay here. The check-in process, the breakfast, the staff...everything was going well beyond expectations until...the check out. I was charged for the entire room snack bar selections and drinks, even though we only grabbed one of the kitkats. I let them know and they then got aggressive and even said that if it wasn't me it was the other person in the room because the snacks had been "restocked" in our room. I told them that no staff had even been in the room other than for room service because we had a "do not disturb" sign on the door the whole trip. "
