"Great host and communication. The house is cozy and it had everything we needed. The air conditioning was great in the Japanese heatwave. In just under 10 minutes, you can walk to some of the nicest streets in Kyoto with temples and cafes. "All the amenities, lobby, and room were very clean, spacious, and well-maintained! The luggage lockers were especially helpful. Two tips: (1) make sure you rinse off in one of the showers near the public bath before entering (this isn't listed on the list of "rules" but it is, indeed, one). (2) Be prepared to wait awhile for the laundry machines to open up; they were full for a while when we were there. Also you'll probably have to run the drying cycle 1.5 times to get your load fully dry."

"Toyoko Hotels are usually great. They are clean, convenient, and affordable, and they tend to have lots of useful amenities or people who might have forgotten to bring something like a toothbrush or razor. This particular hotel has a really convenient location that's a short walk from several train stations and from a couple of very charming and pleasant shopping arcades. Miidera (三井寺) and Lake Biwa (琵琶湖) are also manageable walks. Otsu is a lovely and underrated city, and this hotel is in a really nice part of the city."
