"Broken elevator for 3 weeks! I almost had heart attack had a few anxiety attacks my first room was on the 9 th floor when elevator broke after I almost died going up and down 4 times in less than 1 hour the front desk staff moved me to first floor for my last week of a 4 week stay I stayed here till I left my nyc job a stayed here after selling my apartment but deskstaff was the best the maid service was horrible I bought my own towels and clean my own room the owner should be ashamed not to fix an elevator in a timely fashion I work in high rise residents and we get elevators fixed with in hours not 4 weeks again staff is awesome and management / owners are horrible"

"4 out of 5 stars with notes: Property is less than 6 months old, so it's still clean (except for the very dirty carpeting in the elevators) and new. Staff is helpful and friendly except one night at 10:45 pm, a worker was vacuuming right outside our door. I reminded him what time it was. "I'm almost done," he said, and continued to vacuum, annoyed that I had interrupted his work. I called the front desk who asked me if the guy had a binding on his head and said it was their house man and that they would speak to him. It's close to Manhattan (one or a few stops via subway, depending on the station), and our room had an awesome view of the Manhattan skyline. The neighborhood is light industrial and devoid of people but we felt safe. There's a lot of trash on the streets and sidewalks, however (behind a nearby parked RV was a pile of poop just sitting on the street). The nearby Irish bar had good but overpriced food, though it's too loud and has too many drunks to be family friendly. We used a friendly but run-down corner mart nearby as well. The free hotel breakfast was typical but filling--we even skipped lunch once or twice. If you want real good breakfast food, go to a restaurant. The free subway shuttle to the Vernon Ave station was nice but ran only from 7 to 11 am and 5 to 9 pm. Get back late and you're walking several blocks back to the hotel. One am we arrived 15 min before 11 am but the driver said no go. Not good. Overall a nice stay with some caveats."

"The front desk staff is not very friendly at this hotel. We had a leak in our sink the first night of check-in and they did not even offer to change our room. I had to request the change and they did not even apologize for the inconvenience. The hotel needs a make over, everything felt old and dirtly."

"The continental breakfast isn't fresh and lacks variety but if you're a tourist in a hurry just looking to grab and go it's adequate. Surrounding neighborhood is rough but not unsafe and only a few stops/less than 10 minutes on the subway to Manhattan. Also only 20-30 minute walk to hipper neighborhoods."

"Great property close to Times Square. Rooms are small with no fridge or microwave, but this is an old, historic, well-kept property that we would definitely return to. Get to know "Bobby the Doorman", he's been there for 47 years!! Breakfast at Friedman's was great."

"Location was great one block from the subway. Felt very safe walking the one block as you can see the hotel from the subway station. The 24/7 controlled access doors made it feel very secure. The room was big enough for my husband and I and our 4 adult children and the staff was excellent providing us with all the towels and linens we needed for our bigger family. We would stay there again. "
