Interesting historical building in a popular location, which gets very noisy on Sat. night. There seems to be no sound-proofing between rooms, or anywhere, The seagulls were roosting outside my window and began calling at 5 am. I did not sleep at all.

Great location, this 120 year old building has been very well maintained. Plenty of restaurants within short walking distance. City Parking Garage was across the street for easy access and very affordable.

The Monterey Hotel is in an ideal downtown location and for the price we got was perfect for a little July 4th getaway. The hotel is a historic landmark but it’s showing its age a little bit and the carpets in our room on the second floor needed updating and the bathroom fixtures were a bit worn. Our second floor room had an odd narrow hallway to get to the actual bed and the room was a bit cramped. The bed however was very comfortable and the staff are very friendly. Their “grab and go” breakfast menu in the lobby could be a little more generous and consists of coffee, fresh fruit and granola bars, (but the coffee is decent) If we get another great price like we did before we’ll definitely be back and hopefully get a room with a better view this time!

The antique furniture throughout, the stately living rooms, and the red velvet carpeted stairway add to the historic feel of a structure built in 1904. Walk out the front door and you are immediately immersed in Monterey fog to cool you off in summer and insulate you in winter. Dining options abound, cute shops are plentiful and the boardwalk a short distance away where one can see harbor seals, pelicans and, of course, seagulls. The seagull chatter did not interrupt our sleep as others have mentioned, but our room was on the historic side without a chimney for them to perch on. Breakfast was never stated as a possibility at the time I made the reservation online yet we were offered decent coffee, tea a d cocoa with snack bars and fruit. Transportable food if you’re on the go.

Very nice, vintage hotel in downtown Monterey with no air conditioning so windows had to be open in room until it cooled down at night, parking hard to find on nearby streets. Excellent location to walk to Fisherman's Wharf for dining options.

The fun part about staying here was constantly reminding ourselves that it is not an old property, but rather "historic". Jokes aside, for the age of the property, the stay was quite pleasant. The rooms could be cleaner but was not bad. Location was great, right in downtown monterey with lots of shops and eateries.

The safe was just lovely. Very helpful. Area is beautiful. For an older hotel it still had so much charm. Cute rooms and was quiet. Although the street noise was a bit loud during the day
